I am 8.5+ years post ch 7 BK and foreclosure, it was a rough time. I have since reestablished credit and purchased a house.
I would LOVE to get a Chase UR card, but have been racking my brain on IF I should apply, don't want to waste a HP and get denied.
I have to say that the AMEX blacklist is such a great thing, I mean it! Instead of giving you a HP, they just tell you no because you have caused them a loss at some point. You can apply every month and there will be no HP until and unless you come off their Blacklist. This is FAIR and makes sense. I don't have to guess and I don't have to wonder. If there is no was I'll be approved, they don't bother to pull my credit.
I wish Chase and other companies were straight shooters like AMEX. No....I didn't get approved for the AMEX, but I didn't get the penalty HP with no new account to show for it either. I didn't have that sense of, "well **bleep**, that was for nothing!"
There really isn't a wonder about Chase, they hate BK.
OP, I know it's hard but you will just have to wait. Sure you can apply but I think you know what the answer will be if you roll that dice.
The Amex blacklist can run longer than a chase approval for that matter.
Yes, Amex was IIB. I'm not surprised and I'm not upset. I appreciate that they don't do a HP! ![]()
Yeah, I knew this would be the case, just have to pay the price and be patient. I don't really want an AMEX, but I really appreciate their ability to say no without dinging my credit with a HP. The Chase is a wildcard and I'm not sure when to apply. I ironically have a $670,000 mortgage with Chase, so I would think they would approve me for a CC, lol. But I don't like denials.....so maybe I'll wait another 17 months, tick tock tick tock

There is very little irony there. House is a collateral, card is unsecured debt
If you dont pay your mortgage, they take the house
If you dont pay your card, it's not like they will take the rectangular piece if plastic in lieu of money you did not pay
Hey OP,
Perhaps my experience would give you some encouragement (or not).
Early 2017 I as 8yrs post BK. I applied for the CSR twice in Jan & then Feb.
1st attempt (Jan): denied due to BK, recon denied (was previously garden for 6 years). No derogs aside from BK. The rep did explain that my utilization was too high (I was AU on two cards w big balances). HP on EX.
2nd attempt (Feb): denied due to BK. HP on EX again. Balances had been paid off but didn't reflect on EX yet, but I was anxious to get the 100k SUB. During recon, I explain to the rep about the balances and so she asked for permission to pull another bureau (TU).
I was then approved for the card.
I guess it comes down to how badly you want it.
It was worth it for me and I don't usually have a lot of inquiries so 1-2 on one report isn't terrible.
I do consider it ironic since purchasing a home is a HUGE process that takes 30 days or more, proving your income, credit worthiness, and so on....not an instant approval on the computer. So for me, the irony is definitely there! ![]()
Thanks for your story marmaladepie! I appreciate your insight. I REALLY do want that stupid card....decided to go for the Citi Aadvantage Platinum rewards instead, since I was pretty sure I'd get approved. They must have pulled from EQ because I got an instant approval with $9,300 CL. My EQ doesn't show my BK (no idea why) and my FICO is like 830-840 for that bureau. I was a little irritated with the CL since I already have a Citi card at $12,500 and others with CLs higher than that and zero debt. But whatever, it's a start. I'm going to ponder on it a little longer, then try to join the Chase CC club again. ![]()
I'm not saying go for it. However , i was 3 years out of BK7 and got a chase card. i didn't burn any credit cards in my BK BTW. I was declined when i appd but gave a call and made my case and the rep gave me a shot at a 1k limit. from what i've seen thats abnormal but there is a chance. its since been another 3 years and they have yet to raise my limit.lol Good luck to you.
