I was just approved for the BCP with $25,000 limit. From reading here, I understand that I can request a CLI at activation. Should that be done on the phone or via the website? Thanks in advance!
So I'm confused. Just got my Amex ED and requested CLI at activation. Was denied due to account recently opened and my tenure with Amex is too short.
Does that mean 60 or 90 days to try again.
Thanks, I saw someones post that if you got denied for being ineligible for your first request it wouldn't count as a denial and you could try at 60 not 90 for your next request. So just checking.
I requested a CLI on around day 40 and got denied for being too early. Had to wait 90 days. Recently I couldn't remember when that would be so I logged in and went on chat and simply asked them. They will tell you exactly on what date you can next apply per their rules.
Well I didn't go for 3x but I doubled my AmEx Delta from 10k to 20k which is fine for me. Instant approval. Card has been open for exactly 1 year.
I know, I know, wait times are 90 days denied, 180 days approved. I also have read that some of the CSRs can be misinformed. But . . .
I got a BCE card offer in the mail. Applied online last week. Approved for 10k. Got card today. Activated card. Updated personal info. Requested 3X CLI, i.e. new CL 30k. Got the "you will get a response in the mail in 7-10 days". In a few minutes got an email that they have finished my CLI request and a phone number to call. I called and was told that I have a new account and have to wait 60 days to request a CLI. I explained that it was my understanding that that policy was old and has been replaced with the 90/180 policy and that I COULD request a CLI at card activation. The CSR said (paraphrasing), "the 60 day wait policy has been re-instated". He really said that! I was not prepared for that response and so thanked him and said I will add the date to my calendar.
Huh. I do not have any other AMEX cards. Not sure what to do next. I don't need the CLI but hey, why not?

You can ask for whatever you want. There's. I way to tell if they will ask for income verification. All I know regarding that is what people have stated based on their own experience, but we're not provided with the reason. Based on the reviews sometimes asking for more than $25k triggers it. Some aren't asked at all and some are asked when requesting less. No one really knows.
I read through this thread carefully before requesting my latest CLI for my AmEx SPG personal. (very helpful, thank you)
And I signed up to add another data point in case it's helpful after the request results.
Requested CLI to 30k and it was approved without requiring income verification.
History:
Account open February 2015, CL $3,500
Requested 60 day CLI in April 2015, got declined
Requested another CLI in August 2015, 3x, got approved, CL $10,500
Automatic CLI was given without request, was notified via email in November 2015, CL $13,500
180 day CLI request today (February 16) from the August date, requested $30k, granted CL $30,000
no verification required
Experian Plus score is currently 669

I've been using both business and personal SPG accounts though way past the spending limit until I hit a decline due to spending ability, which I discovered for my cards are at 2x the credit limit (so, 27k for the personal when it was at 10.5). I'd sometimes have to "recharge" the card (mid-cycle payment to zero out the balance) so I could spend more on it before one cycle ended (although not recently - see below). So despite the 10.5k CL I've been charging about 25k or more monthly on it. It is just a guess but it could be why the 30k was approved. Of course I'd zero out my balance before each statement cut.
I think I also kind of "trained" my account differently from where I did before. In the beginning, with a low limit, I'd have to go through three or four mid-cycle payments to free up my spending ability before the statement cut, resulting in my charging about 4x the credit limit or more. After a while, I stopped doing that, and once I reached my spending limit, I stopped using the card completely until the statement cut (at which point I'd zero out the balance before statement cut). I was afraid AmEx wouldn't increase my CL since I seemed to be fine with a lower limit since I seemed happy just recharging my card. It was also a hassle doing that so often. I think once I stopped recharging my card and moved on to invest my spend with other cards, they gave me the auto CLI. Nowadays, I rarely re-charge my card unless absolutely necessary; once they won't let me spend any more on the card I just move on to my next card instead of making a mid-cycle payment to use the card more. So it's kind of like if they don't let me spend more with a CLI, they won't get my spend. I'll keep doing this and we will see how it continues to work...
In an ideal world, eventually, I would like to invest my spend with only two cards.

Yes, if your "denial" is not actually a denial but more of a "not eligible yet due to timing" then it's not really considered a denial. The clock still starts from the last "real" denial, or "real" approval, account opening, etc.
