Does Amex to an AR pull every so often and base their decision on that or do they do a SP at the time of the CLI request for the 3X?

I can tell you with almost certainty that it's typically not at the time of the CLI request. It's my suspicion that it's at the end of every billing period or beginning of the next when their FICO updates monthly. Now in my case, I remember they pulled me several times in my first two months with them.

Amex does a SP every month, that is how you get your free ex score.  Cli is based on that pull info as far as I know and other factors in your profile.

Do you know if that is true on all companies who give you your FICO? (Using the free FICO score they give you)

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

So if I search my credit reports I should find a SP from Amex every month then right?

Assuming your score is updating monthly with Amex, yes.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

I just requested a 3x CLI after chatting with Amex and they confirmed my account was opened on 1/9 which is 62 days from account opening today (right?)

Anyways I got 7-10 day message Smiley Sad I thought this usually means too soon but according to their records it's been 62 days. Also it shows a SP from EX on 3/8 just a few days ago.

I have read the whole thing, but not in one sitting... Again y'all, the day 61 thing isn't a sure thing for everyone...

The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide[ Edited ]

Update 03/02/2017 - The following information discusses requesting your first 3X CLI 61 days after account creation.  In the past year or so, American Express has started to deviate, at times, from making account holders wait the 61 days to be eligible for a CLI.  There have been many examples and they continue to this day of people being able to request and receive CLIs up to 3X of their limit as soon as they activate the card or well before the 61 days have past.  However, during this same time period, other people have been told that they requested too earlier and need to wait out the 61 days.    American Express has been inconsistent with the 'rules' surrounding initial CLI requests so there is no way to determine if you're eligible to request on earlier than 61 days.  In all probability, the stronger your credit file, the better your chances of receiving a CLI earlier than the 61 days.  It is definitely a YMMV situation.

If you request a CLI earlier than 61 days and are told that it was denied because you requested one too earlier you should be able to try again at the 61 day mark or later.  The general rule is that premature CLI requests do not reset the clock and this tends to be the case here as well.  If however, you request early and are denied for a credit related reason such as your scores are too low,  then you would need to wait 91 days for being able to try again.  This is the case with all CLI requests that are denied for anything other than requesting one too early.

I can attest to this advice.  My last credit increase was around September 13, 2016. I was informed by an AMEX rep that I'd have to wait 6 months for another increase.  I called in Feb 16 2017 to inquire about what the actual term-ending date would be.  I was informed to just apply and the credit department would let me know.  Nonethless, I was denied a credit limit increase on Feb. 16 2017 and the reason was that my request was too soon (and I still was not given a date that the term was to end).  So, I contacted a rep at AMEX yesterday (3/14/17) to ask when I'd be able to apply.  He stated 60 days from Feb 16 2017.  I got a bit frustrated and just applied again.  I was approved immediately from $4k to $12k limit.

Lesson:  The AMEX reps I've spoken to (about 8) dont know the rhythm or rhyme to the timing of increases/eligibility.

MustangSaluki is right on the money that there is no way to determine eligibility.  In my case, the reason for denial was "too soon to request" and at a month later, I'm now approved.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

I promise I've read much of this entire thread in pieces, but am not sure on my specific scenario.  I was approved for the SPG today.  I received a CLI on my Blue on January 26th.  Do I have to wait until late July (180 days) to apply for a CLI on the SPG, or should I still be eligible in mid-May (61 days)?  I understand that if I transfer some of the limit from my Blue to SPG, this does not reset the 180 day clock.  Does it reset the 61 day clock?  Thanks!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, K. You gotta do 180 days hard time. Your release date is July.
