Of all the posts I've read, a 1k SL almost never gets a CLI out the gate or one at day 61. With AMEX, a 1k SL is a "Here kid, let's see how you handle this pocket change, if you do okay, we'll give you a little more later on..."
That being said, congrats on getting in the door!
So far I'm for 1-for-2 on 3xCLIs. I started with a $1k limit on my first AmEx, and I got it to 3 grand at the 61 days. Was denied for one in December, so hoping I get approved on my 3rd go around at the end of the month. I have seen many say they had a hard time getting the increase after starting out with 1k, so I guess I got lucky.

Update 03/02/2017 - The following information discusses requesting your first 3X CLI 61 days after account creation. In the past year or so, American Express has started to deviate, at times, from making account holders wait the 61 days to be eligible for a CLI. There have been many examples and they continue to this day of people being able to request and receive CLIs up to 3X of their limit as soon as they activate the card or well before the 61 days have past. However, during this same time period, other people have been told that they requested too earlier and need to wait out the 61 days. American Express has been inconsistent with the 'rules' surrounding initial CLI requests so there is no way to determine if you're eligible to request on earlier than 61 days. In all probability, the stronger your credit file, the better your chances of receiving a CLI earlier than the 61 days. It is definitely a YMMV situation.
If you request a CLI earlier than 61 days and are told that it was denied because you requested one too earlier you should be able to try again at the 61 day mark or later. The general rule is that premature CLI requests do not reset the clock and this tends to be the case here as well. If however, you request early and are denied for a credit related reason such as your scores are too low, then you would need to wait 91 days for being able to try again. This is the case with all CLI requests that are denied for anything other than requesting one too early.
I can attest to this advice. My last credit increase was around September 13, 2016. I was informed by an AMEX rep that I'd have to wait 6 months for another increase. I called in Feb 16 2017 to inquire about what the actual term-ending date would be. I was informed to just apply and the credit department would let me know. Nonethless, I was denied a credit limit increase on Feb. 16 2017 and the reason was that my request was too soon (and I still was not given a date that the term was to end). So, I contacted a rep at AMEX yesterday (3/14/17) to ask when I'd be able to apply. He stated 60 days from Feb 16 2017. I got a bit frustrated and just applied again. I was approved immediately from $4k to $12k limit.
Lesson: The AMEX reps I've spoken to (about 8) dont know the rhythm or rhyme to the timing of increases/eligibility.
MustangSaluki is right on the money that there is no way to determine eligibility. In my case, the reason for denial was "too soon to request" and at a month later, I'm now approved.
@Ashley1980 Amex treats all cards as one account per say. It's one increase approval across all of your cards every 180+1 days You were approved for an increase on Sep 13, 2016. Tried early on on 2/16/17 and denied because it had not been 180+1 days since your last approval. This was not a decline for a credit reason...ie balance on accounts to high on any of those adverse action/risk messages. The decline was simply based on internal Amex policy of 180+1 days between approved increase.
Sept 13, 2016 + 181 days = 03/13/17 ...so when you applied again on 3/14/17 and were approved, it's because you were now eligible again under their internal policy. It had nothing to do with date of your denial on Feb 16th...
Congrats! How much was your CLI

Got approved for Everyday card Feb 8th for $1000. Recieved the card used it at PepBoys for some car maintenance. So about 2 weeks in decided to try for a cli and was shockingly approved instantly.. Thought id be bracketed for a couple more years as punishment for previous bk7, that DID include Amex. Go figure
If I understand correctly, does that mean you were approved for a CLI BEFORE the 61st day?

Yes, that's what it means. If you look at the first post in this thread we have added information about CLIs prior to the 61 day mark.

@ SGTtar, basically got $2000 cli as i put in 3k for what i wanted
@luxeprw9, yes as Irish stated, this cli was granted before 61 days.
Now, im not sure if in 180 days, Amex will feel confident in giving another cli but for now im happy as at least i have some breathing room.
Thanks for the reply!
My 61st day is 4/4 but I thought I'd try today - nope! Got the 7-10 day message! LOL!
Oh well, I just got approved for the Green card about a week ago, so I'm not too bummed. I got an email that said to call for the decision so I will find out tomorrow the reason for the denial. I hope it's just that it was too soon and not anything to do with my credit.
@Holliem Good data points. As it looks like you still got 3XCli inspite of your score being lower than when you where approved. This is good info to know. And congrats on the increase.
