Re: 2018 - 3x AMEX CLI should I?

Hey guys

I got approved for 2 AMEXs with $15K limits each.

Amex SPG - 15K

Amex Delta - 15K

I have a charge card too but that doesn't really count right, so this puts my AMEX limits at ~$30K already

Would the 3X CLI already trigger their review? I heard once you try to get over 30K limit with AMEX they require the IRS-4056T form for income/asset verification.

But that was years ago

Whats it like now and should I? I know its just a quick thing and no hard pull but was wondering if there is any optimization these days

Yea, asking for 45K just might. It won’t hurt to ask for it, then back down 1K at a time until your approval... 44, 43.... or do it 5K at a time. I bet you can get it to 35K for sure.

So on my favorite card with them just try for 45K after the 60 day mark

When will I get the opportunity to back down 1K, I guess you are saying its just soft pulls so it doesn't matter

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

About the credit steps... I just ignored them. Not intentionally, I didnt see the email until I already put alot of spend and pif so thats what i continued to do. That has worked out for me twice. My 3rd is coming up next month. I also put alot of spend on my PRG. Sometimes 10-20k a month and PIF. I believe my PRG usage helps as well. My scores have went from 720ish to 790ish within this time and my income has doubled.

So I do not believe all credit steps accounts are hard to grow, it really depends on the profile and usage.

@gen-specific
Ask for 45k. When it says 4056 is required, press the back button and ask for a lower amount until it no longer requires 4056. You will still receive the 4056 forms, just ignore them.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

I would see if your oreapproved for another Amex card. My wife was first approved for $500 BCE. Because of the info obtained from this, forum we opted to have her apply for a new cobranded card instead of asking for a 3X CLI since $500 cards seem hard to increase. She got a $3100 Aspire card in her second attempt. She will then try 3X on that one instead of trying for the BCE. It will effectively save her 30 days since she is likely to get rejected for the 61 day 3X on BCE because of the $500 limit, and have to wait an additional 90 days to try again. By getting a new card after some history with Amex and a higher SL she is more likely to get CLI in 61 days instead oh having to wait 90 to try after her rejection. Wish us luck.

I did this with my SPG. It was only at $1000 and it’s believed that one is also harder to increase. I also got a $3100 Aspire that I was able to successfully 3X last month to $9300 and I applied for the delta Amex Platinum 10 days later and got a 10K starting limit.

Yea, I’d say go for the max you can get, backing out if you get hit with the IV, and dont want to submit it, back down 1K at a time.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

I am new here and had a few questions.  I have been with Amex since 07 and have three cards with them.  My two personal cards are the Platinum charge card and the Preferred Everyday card.  I have had both of those since 09.  I have a credit score of 820-839 depending on the bureau.  I make over a little over 6 figures a year.  I pay off my preferred card every month which is usually between 1-3k, depending on the time of year.  I have never asked for an increase, but Amex has increased my limit of the years to where it currently stands at 16k.  I have low credit to debt overall to begin with and am looking to boost my limit on my most frequently used cards.  I was wondering what some of the more experienced users here think I should ask for.  Thanks

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

That depends on how much you're willing to get before a possible IV prompt from AMEX. Think you can easily get $30k+ from them but any more than that is tricky. What type of limit are you possibly targeting?

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

zerocool8, I'd ask for the full 3X CLI to $48k if I were you.  Chances are you won't get it and will be prompted with IV lingo, but just back it down until you get an instant approval.  I can gaurantee with your scores, income and nearly a decade of Amex history that you'll get $30k.  I have ZERO doubt about that.  I think that $35k is also likely.  Above that, it's tough to tell.  I'd probably try $48k, $45k, $40k, $35k and $30k in that order if I were you, simply backing out and starting over at any point where you're prompted with IV.  From wherever you end up, with your profile you can get at least another $5k every 6 months, so you can continue to grow your limit more if the worst-case $30k scenario isn't enough.
