But if a 3X CLI is the max one can obtain at 61+ days, wouldn't him asking for over $3k be a waste of time?

Have there been any exceptions to the 3X CLI rule that have been reported over the years?

Well won't it just deny it instead? Why would it pop up income verification instead of denied? I thought I would only get one shot at this?

There's that... Even if it does decline it, there's no INQ's done, so, give what you want a shot.

It really doesn't hurt to try. I've read of members on the site going well pass the 3x rule. Amex definitely likes to see use though. Seems the more you use their card, the better the CLI'S.

Erikka34, no you have more than one shot. If you receive a 7 to 10 message. You're not eligible for a CLI. If verification pops up, you can plug away.
If you just do 3x and it is instant. Then there's your one shot. Going higher allows you to test the ceiling.

Sorry about that. So I asked for 5K and got the 7-10 day message. I have had 1 payment on it and paid off full balance for that billing cycle and my next payment is due on the 23 of Aug. it just worked out weird for billing cycle this time around.

And on a side note just soft pulled my navy fed 10k card to 14k instant approval and for the dreaded personal review for my other navy fed card. It said 24 hours though so I don't know if that will be a hard pull. Also I haven't used my BCE a whole lot just a few things and auto pay my 300-400 phone bill on it. But with that I am also getting back 10% Credit to statement immediately.

I did that when my ED card was at 61 days. The letter will tell you the account is too new and you'll need to wat for the 181st day, then you can hit the 3X. Patience paid off and I got the 3k. 2 more months and I can ask for the 9k. Use it as much as you can in the next two months and you'll have no problem.
