So my initial credit limit was $6,000, and I decided to go with $15,000 instead of 18 since I don't want all my available credit tied to AMEX, got approved instantly.
MyFico/Other Handle:
Initial CL: 6,000
61 day/181 day CLI: 61 day
Amex Utilization @ CLI: 21%
Overall Utilization @ Last EX Soft Pull: 25%
Ratio of Income/(Overall Available Credit) (4 decimal places): 6.875
Number of new credit lines opened since opening Amex account or last Amex CLI: 3
Total $$ value of all transactions since Amex account opening or last Amex CLI: Around $3,500
Applied for an AMEX Blue Cash Preferred 61 days ago. Approved for $12,300. Today was day 61 so I decided to go for $20k instead of $36,900. Instant approval.
Thanks for this wonderful post. I would have never thought to request a CLI so soon after establishing my BCE.
Initially approved 9/6/14 for 10K. Last night I pushed the 'luv' button for 24K and it was INSTANT!! approval..
I continue to be amazed by the knowledge and info shared on this forum. Thanks again.
*** Final Verdict Update ****
After cafeful review and reconsideration by Amex, I have been denied for the exact same reason as before, my income.
I may try again in 6 months and maybe ask for less and see what happens.
As i have said before it does feel a bit better to be denied because of income rather than things on my credit files.
When I last requested a CLI in June the most they would give me was a $200 increase taking my limit from 6600 to 6800. Today I bought a new TV from Costco and 20 minutes later I got an email from American Express thanking me for always being a good customer. The email indicated that because of my excellent history with them they were increasing my limit to $9500. My question is, was it just a coincidence or did the TV purchase have something to do with the random CLI? I should also mention that I did accidentally pay my bill in full before the statement cut. Normally I let American Express report a balance and the rest of my cards I pay before the statement cuts so they report 0. I was swamped doing my papers for classes and not thinking accidentally paid my Amex earlier than usual.

You have a good payment history. You bought a TV on Black Friday. You are in a spending mood. SPEND! SPEND! SPEND! More swipe fees for AMEX
It's likely a combination of many things. This CLI that they gave you does not affect your timing from your last $200 request, if that six months expires in January you can request another increase then.

I just edited my post after you replied but I had forgotten to mention that I did accidentally pay my amex bill before the statement cut. Normally I just let American Express report a balance but this time, not thinking, paid the balance before the statement cut. So I instead just let my Navy Federal card report a balance this time. I am wondering if that had any affect on the random CLI. The rest of my cards even though I use them always report 0.

I like to think that paying before the statement even prints doesn't make a difference. Let's just go with the good payment history as the main reason. And Black Friday

Increase from 14,500 to 25,000 YAY!!
I tend to agree about the statement cutting! My last statement had a balance of $519 but I paid down any balance shortly after and actually have a credit of $97 as I just got a statement credit for spending x amount within 3 months.
I initially asked for $30k and got the 7-10 day message. I chatted with someone who was no help, and talked to a rep who said I could call the credit dept. tomorrow (Monday) or she could try the CLI button for me again (my request). While I wanted to know the reason, I also wanted the increase before any time passed. So I went back online and resubmited the increase and asked for 25 instead of 30 and voila! Super happy. I think I could have gotten the 30 if I talked to a the credit dept. One person I talked to mentioned they may just need income verification Iwhich I was willing to complete even if the form was required), but I didn't want to wait. One of the reps also said there was no internal limit on multiple cards (fwiw).

Super thankful for the myFico Forum! I read this thread from beginning to end before actually applying. It took me 2 days, but I wanted to be well informed. Going to apply for the EDC cli when eligible.. 181 days.. yay! =)
