Too many inquiries, How long to Garden?

Hey guys, just got approved for 2 new cards and have hit a wall.

I was pretty dumb applying for nearly everything with no knowledge. Now I have a good idea of what to do.

How long should I garden for in order to get approved for a few more cards? My scores are 670-700.

Do companies look at all the inquiries within last 2 years? If so, i have a lot lol.

Simple question is, what is the least amount of months i should wait before applying for anything?

Thanks guys!

Re: Too many inquiries, How long to Garden?

Inquiries fall off your report after 2 years.  They stop impacting your score after 1 year.

While this has nothing to do with your question, is there a reason in particular that you want to keep apping?  It sounds like you applied for a lot and presumably took on a good amount of new accounts relatively recently.  Assuming you already have a handful of cards, taking on more can be much more of a liability rather than an asset.

I actually only have 3 open cards now. I had a bunch of sub prime cards (opensky, cap1 secured, credit one) which I just closed.

Im not in a rush to apply for anything.

My question is:

What is the least amount of time that I can spend in the garden for a credit card company to not deny me for "too many recent inquiries".

Like if I wait 6 months, can they still tell me i had too many recent inquiries?

Re: Too many inquiries, How long to Garden?

You should give a year and let those inquiries start to wane away. Also gives you some time to build better credit history with your new cards. Lots of those entry-level cards like my Cap1 QS1 or my Discover It card have pretty generous CLI after 6 months and then after a year. I didn't even know I was on Cap1's "Step Program" until I called furiously for being denied a CLI. I was denied because I was already in a program that could increase (ie, step up) my CL for every 6 on-time payments. My card is $750 increase every 6 months.

People always forget that the other side of gardening is also tending to your new seeds and making sure they grow.

Re: Too many inquiries, How long to Garden?

There isn't a "catch all" answer for inquiries.  Every bank has its own rules.  Typically the first reason given is the primary for the decline with the others just being attributes of your FICO.  So if the number of inquiries is really the issue then wait till they fall off.  If it is a second or third reason then wait for 1 year (when it is no longer an attribute of your FICO and assuming you've resolved the first reason).
