I've had my Discover since 8/14. I have not had a CLI for over 90 days. I hit the luv button and was offered a $500 cli, on a card with a $8.4k limit. I declined. I figure I don't want to be tied up again for another 90 days over a 500cli, when a bigger one might be around the corner, sooner. Am I nutz?

I would have accepted $1500, as that would have put me inches from a 5 digit cl, but I don't need it and I don't owe anything on the card. I've run over $5k through the card in the past 90 days and carried a balance one statement, but have always PIF since opening, other than that.

I've seen good reports from people who did just what you did, declined the small CLI and waited.... then got significantly bigger ones just a short time later.

I just accepted $500 week or so ago. It has been like clock work for me. Every 90 days a $500 CLI. I don't use the card much. I do buy a few items when they give me the increase. Just a way of saying thanks.
I'm experimenting. I'm sure they already know what my TU score is, but the one they are showing on my last statement is 690. By the time my next statement cuts the FICO should be over 730. It was around 675 when the account was opened.

I got an instant $500 CLI on September 23, which I took, to $6,500.
I tried again on November 1, got a 2-3 days message, then found another $1,500 CLI to $8k a few days later.
So my opinion is that the "principled decline" of not wanting smaller CLI is perhaps not something the bank really understands, or cares about ![]()

OP...Ive seen people do this stratagy of denying a small CLI on Cap1...but never for Discover.
There are a few peeps here who have high CL with Discover like yourself, and have only been offered $500, and accepted it. I personally would have taken it. That may be all they are willing to offer right now, and who knows when it would be available again.
I've seen reports of people declining small Discover CLI's and getting a big CLI shortly after. Oddly, when I get a CLI they don't give me a choice of accepting or rejecting, they just congratulate me and give me a $300 CLI
I guess they figure someone like me will take whatever he can get ![]()
