UMB Simply Rewards chances

Would like to apply for this card. As far as I know they pull TU (but I do not know if the use TU for MA residents). I would apply through the local bank website (https://www.milfordfederal.com/visa-platinum-credit-card-2/).

I have 0 inquiries in the last 24 mo in TU (but I have 8/3/1 in 24/12/6 mo in EX), 2 recent accounts were opened 8 mo ago, TU Fico 8 score is about 735. The oldest account -- 3 yrs 4 mo, AAoA -- 1 yr 6 mo. I do not have any negative marks in my profile. The utilization is 7 % right now.

Do I have any chances to get this card? Or it is better to zero the utilization to increase my score and try then? Or...?

Thank you!

Re: UMB Simply Rewards chances

I applied at the beginning of the year and my TU was 4/24 with my EX being 6/24. Since your 0/24 with TU and the latest account you opened was 8 months ago I'd say you have a pretty good chance. My TU score was a bit higher than yours at 761 but I don't think it'll make much difference; you could wait a few more months just to be sure.

Also all apps will have a two week review notice but if you're approved right away you'll get the card in a week (mine arrived in 5 days).

Re: UMB Simply Rewards chances

If I live in MA, I need to apply through the local bank (Milford Federal) only? I see on the UMB website the info: "15,000 bonus points when you make $1,500 in purchases with your card within the first 90 days of account opening". Does it apply only for direct UMB applications?

Re: UMB Simply Rewards chances

Today I called UMB and the CSR told me that any person from any state in the US can apply for their credit cards. After finding a lot of conflicting information on the internet regarding that I decided to double-check and started to chat with another CSR. She didn't know the answer and asked their manager, so the answer was that I COULD NOT apply for thair credit cards if I was from out of their service area.

Re: UMB Simply Rewards chances

Anybody in the continental US can apply for the UMB card but only those in their banking footprint will be approved for it. Those of us in other states have to go through the affinity route yours being Milford federal OP. And unfortunately the SUB is only available for the main card not the affinities.

Re: UMB Simply Rewards chances

Still a worthwhile card if you can get approved if you shop at Walmart — the UMB card is the only one I know of that has 3% back at both groceries and discount stores so even if you can’t get the SUB, if you shop at Walmart, it’s worth it over time.

I wouldn’t mind having this one but they would laugh me right out of UW with my 6 TU inquiries and 6/6, 10/12, and 11/24 stats so I’m much more likely to go for the Bank Of The West card next time I see a SUB — that one has the same structure but is just missing the discount stores and I don’t shop at Walmart anyway.

Re: UMB Simply Rewards chances

I have reason to believe that if they use TU then you are a customer that they will want to issue plastic for. As to the sign up bonus that would be something you should ask them after you are done with your application. I have reason to believe that they might not offer anything if you are using an affinity institution to join them but you never know since they can pull something out of a hat or offer it to all.

Do you mean that if they decide to decline my application, they will not do a HP? And I can at least try to apply directly with them without fear of wasting the HP?

Re: UMB Simply Rewards chances

There have already been people that tried applying with the UMB affinity code while being in MA and it was an auto fail. I guarantee that you will need to use the Milford Federal affinity code. The application should come with a HP regardless of pass/fail. If you look closely all applications go via UMB anyway. What I said is that based on your statement of what is in the TransUnion report you are likely to get the card if they ask TransUnion(TU). I have historic info that they used to pull TU but who knows what they will pull on your app.
