Recon by email to EO . My brother in law was declined for the same card and later approved through EO . It was his first card ever . The email he sent was really basic . They called him a week later asking questions like address , social and date of birth . 2 weeks later he gets an email saying he was approved and the card was shipped . All this with the same HP's .
Thanks, all. What's the best EO email address and/or phone number to call?
Chris.
So I called CapOne (800-625-7866) last night to ask for a reconsideration. Words cannot describe the level of stupidity of the representative I got. Dumber than a bag of hammers. A true new low in my experience with customer service. I'm sure somewhere there's a villiage which is searching to fill its idiot position. This guy would be the ideal candidate.
The abbreviated version of what was a painfully long and mostly meaningless conversation is this: unless there was something inaccurate about the credit reports they pulled, a reconsideration would serve no purpose; it would end with the same result. He also first told me that reconsideration would involve another hard credit pull, then backtracked and said it wouldn't. I decided to just end the conversation.
I'm working up an email for reconsideration; maybe that will encounter an intelligent life form at Capital One. Just not sure exactly who to send it to.
Chris.
They probably feel you are stockpiling credit cards and not using them. That you don't need the credit as you don't use any of the credit you already have , thus you are likely to not be a profitable customer should they grant you credit.

Are you really surprised they don't want you? Don't take it personal. They don't believe you will be a profitable customer, so instead of burning money, they chose to say no. You even admitted so yourself.
To expect them to just give you the card because you called and asked is rather unreasonable.
No, I get it. I'm not taking it personally, I'm just hoping to redeem a three-bureau credit hit. I understand why they might not want me, but in past experience, credit decisions are made by automated systems. Sometimes talking to an actual person and explaining why you want the card, and explaining the specifics of your credit history can shake something loose.
It's not because he didn't give me what I want that I thought the CSR was an idiot. It was because he was an idiot.
I told myself I wasn't going to do this, but here's a rough *abbeviated* transcript of the conversation:
Hello, um, this is xxxx at Capital One, how can I help you?
Yes, my name is yyyy, and two days ago I applied for the Capital One Venture card and my application was rejected. I'm calling to see if I can get my application reconsidered.
Um, OK, can you tell me your account number?
Well, I don't have one; this is about a new account application.
Um, OK, can you give me your application number or, um, your social?
Yes, my social security number is xxx-xx-xxxx.
Ok, well, um, it looks like you applied in February.
Actually, it was just a few days ago, on March 2.
Um, OK, well [clicks into robotic monotone reading mode] blah, blah, "you will be be receiving detailed letter from Capital One within 10 days listing the reasons for the denial..."
Yes, well, I got that detailed letter yesterday by email.
So, um, what were the reasons listed?
Well, that's what's confusing. In one place it says I have "too many accounts with balances" and in another place it says I have "too few or no accounts with balances."
So you have too many accounts with balances?
Well, I don't know. I do have a lot of accounts, but I'm not sure what Capital One's guidelines are. Should I be looking to have more accounts or fewer accounts?
So, you don't have any other accounts?
No, I have other accounts, I'm just not sure what Capital One is looking for.
Well, um, what does the letter say?
As I said, in one place it says I have "too many accounts with balances" and in another place it says I have "too few or no accounts with balances."
Well, um, we wouldn't send anything like that. I suggest you send that letter to our fraud department.
Ok, well, I'll consider that. In the meantime, I'm still denied, and I wanted to see about reconsideration. You see, I've had a single Capital One account for many years, but I don't use it a lot because the rewards aren't very useful to me. If you look at my existing account, you'll see I have a perfect payment record but very little usage. I was applying for the Venture card because of its travel benefits. I just ended up getting more annual vacation time from work, so we're planning to travel more, and I thought the Venture card would be a good fit for my needs.
So, you already have a lot of Capital One cards?
No, I just have the one Capital One Platinum Select card.
So, um, you already have a Captial One Venture card?
No, as I said, I just have the Capital One Platinum Select card.
Well, um, the Venture card is a different card.
Yes, that's why I applied for it.
OK, um, what happened when you applied?
As I said, I was denied. The question I have is can I have my application reconsidered?
Well, yeah, I can send it through to have it reconsidered, but if nothing has changed, you'll get denied again. Also, I must inform you that there will be a hard inquiry on your report if I send this through. Do I have your approval to send this through, then?
No. Please don't bother. I don't want another inquiry.
Well, since you applied back in the beginning of February, there will be a hard inquiry to reconsider.
Actually, I applied just a couple of days ago on March 2.
Oh, well, then there won't be a hard inquiry. But if you applied on March 2, then you should wait 10 days for a detailed letter listing the reasons for denial.
I got that letter yesterday via email.
And what did the letter say?
As I said, in one place it says I have "too many accounts with balances" and in another place it says I have "too few or no accounts with balances."
Well, um, we wouldn't send anything like that. I suggest you send that letter to our fraud department.

That's what I thought I was doing when I called 800-625-7866. That was the first number listed in the Backdoor Numbers thread. Is there a better number to use?
Chris.
