My understanding however is that if you go for a CLOC and are also thinking about an auto loan or refinance that they can use the HP from the CLOC for that. I wish I'd have know that back in Nov when I asked for CLI on my CLOC and took a HP. I might have gone for a new truck then too. As for deposit amounts I opened mine with $20 and was approved for a 14k CashRewards Visa and 10k CLOC the same day as my membership and two days later a Platinum MC with only $20 on deposit there. Received CLI's on both cards to 22k each 2 1/2 months later and still wasn't depositing much into them. I know have half my direct deposit going to them now but no you don't need to keep a lot on tap there to have sucess though they are a great option to do your primary banking with.
I would consider them for primary banking if there was a branch I could walk into close to where I live.
So you had 4 HPs from them?
Day 1: 1 HP = Membership; 1 HP = Cash Rewards; 1 HP = CLOC
Day 3: 1 HP = Platinum MC - What was your SL limit on this one?
Why didn't you go for 25k CLI on each card? Was your CLI a SP?
Yeah for membership, 2 CC's and CLOC I ended up with 1 HP on TU and 3 on EQ. Was worth it at the time as I had no revolving lines reporting and this gave me my first three at 14k on the CashRewards, 2k on the Plat MC and 10k on the CLOC. So from zero to 26k in two days. The MC app was originally denied and I SM reconned that into an approval for 2k explaining I was looking for a MC to use at Sam's Club so they approved. This was all June 30 and July 2 of last year. Got lucky and managed CLI's on both CC's to 22k at the beginning of Sept when they did AR. Tried for a CLI on the CLOC at that time and they said no. Beginning of November when they did AR again I bumped both cards to 25k via SP CLI again and decided to take a HP and this time got the CLOC up to it's max of 15k. They are hands down my most generous lender with 65k of exposure within 5 months of membership with slightly under reported income of 92k (it's actually a little higher). I'm lucky in that I have two branches either 15 minutes away from me in different directions. Then again I do live close to their main offices. They have been fantastic to deal with anytime I've needed to either in branch or by phone. And they answer those phones around the clock.
Jeeesh, friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend. I served 7 1/2 years in the USAF and not eligible. So many people get in with arms length relationships. BS
I'm going to bed.

I see what you're trying to do here, but I'm using family not friend of friend. I understand your frustration, I will be providing a path to membership to relatives on my side of the family that served but cannot join. Maybe someone in your family tree will be able to help you join some day.
Thank you for your service, goodnight.
Congrats on finding a way in, Cal!
Until I started hanging out here last spring, I had never even heard of NFCU. I've only got one brother left who's active duty (the others discharged years ago), and he's getting out in only a few months. I guess 'the stars were aligned' because I was able to get him to join then a couple of weeks later, I used his access number (what they call member number) to join myself. Right after I got my membership, I applied and was approved for their platinum MasterCard... they gave me the largest credit line and lowest APR of all of my cards.
I'm quite pleased with USAA for my checking, but if I ever had the need to make a change, NFCU would be my first stop. Many folks here get a checking account with Navy so they can get the CLOC, but I've already got two checking accounts, and with the high limit on the credit card they gave me, I honestly have no need for a CLOC (which would likely also have a higher APR than the card they gave me). That's just me, though... many folks on here absolutely rave over the CLOC, and if I ever do need one I will go with NFCU.
I think you're being smart about how your handling your soon-to-be membership... there are quite a few threads just on myFICO that tell of the infamous security dept. of NFCU. In my own case I chose to be cautious as well; technically I was eligible through my brother even if he hadn't joined (until he's discharged), but to minimize the chances of having my accounts locked I asked him to join first (it was an easy sell), so that my own membership could be directly linked to him. I like to say, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". (I offered to pay his $5 share account deposit as well, but once he realized how much he was going to benefit, he was fine paying it himself... LOL)
I'm officially a member now, my wife and I create our own individual accounts on the same call.
Since some people had different experiences with HPs, for or those of you who applied for both a CC + CLOC did you do it online or over the phone? Did you get 1 HP or 2 HPs? Nevermind it looks like its two HPs
