When you go in to initiate your request. If it's a limit they aren't willing to give instantly. You'll get a IV request. Just hit the back button in the browser and lower the asking amount.
Normally when I see the IV request. It's an indication that you have a pre-approved or predetermined amount already registered in their system. You just over shot it.
In some cases they'll take the guess work out and just counter offer with what they are willing to give at the present time.
Don't freak out if you get several IV forms after the approval. You can ignore them and toss in the trash. Those are sent out automatically when ever you bump against the maximum amount they are willing to give at that time.
Personally I'd go for $40k..just because. lol
Thanks for the heads up! Yes, I would have freaked out if you hadn't told me about them!
OP, it all comes down to what you want your limit to be here. You can land it at $30k-$35k without IV. You said in your original post though that you have no problem providing IV. That being said, you can essentially name your limit up to $63k and more than likely get it (with IV provided). So, the decision is yours... $30k-$35k without IV, or up to $63k with IV.
If you have another AMEX revolver (if not you could apply unless you're in the garden...if that is the case then ignore) you may want to move some of the BCE CL over to it then go for your 3X CLI on the BCE. If you want 30k on the BCE move all but 10k then request away.
@jamie123wrote:I was approved for an AMEX BCE a little over 1 year ago with a starting CL of $21K. In the past year I have used the 0% for 12 months offer and have had really high reporting balances (70 to 80% UTI) because...free money.
I have recently paid my balance to $0 because the 0% offer was going to expire.
I want to ask for a CLI now but 3X sounds a bit on the high side with my starting CL already at $21K. How much should I ask for? I don't mind proving my income to them if that is necessary.
What do you guys think?
OP - Good job on your progress. Just a little heads up.
My previous SL on this card was 25k and I had requested for 40k on 03/01/2018. The system prompted me about income verification and I hit cancel. I then tried lowering the request to 34.5k and it was instantly approved.
I also received 2 letters in the mail dated the same day, one requesting ITR 4506T.
Let us know how it goes. Good luck!
Following because I will be in a simular situation and want to see how it ends for the OP.
I updated the first post in this thread with the outstanding results of my CLI spree!

Sorry you didn’t get approved, please try again in 91 days, see how they react...
Yeah, I was really surprised that AMEX shot me down. I received the AMEX Zync charge card about 5 1/2 years ago when I had just started rebuilding. It came with a $500 hard limit because my credit back then was iffy. For years the saying was, "You have to close the Zync card to be able to get anything else from AMEX". Last year I did however receive the AMEX BCE with a starting line of $21K so I thought they did away with the "Must close Zync" rule. I guess not.
In 3 months I'll call back and talk to a rep and ask for the CLI. I probably screwed myself this time by asking for the CLI with the Luv button because then I started out with a rejection before I talked with a real person. (And then I talked with 12 people that had various ways of telling me, "NO!")
