Curious - trying to find DPs on those of you who app'ed for a US Bank Cash+ card and were already a US Bank Customer.

It's been mentioned many times that you need to be 0/6 and 1/12 (or even 0/12) to get approvals - but I am curious if USB gives some leeway to their current customers (sorta like BoA with their 3/12 customer 7/12 non-customer rule).

You would *think* USB might cut their own customers some slack.

Actually they are relationship based. Or at least they have been in the past. They did have a "Customer Relationship Score" which would come into play. While getting approved is what it is at a given point in time but the score could assist with an approval. In my case I wanted a Personal Line of Credit and they (CSR) said it would be good to have a year with USB. Well I took the plunge after eight months and the score carried me. Now some Forum members have gotten approvals with just a few days. As has been said, it just all depends. Someone mentioned elsewhere sometimes we need to take the plunge?! Food for thought.

I took the plunge when I wasn't a USB Customer back in March with a 784 F09 score and this is what they gave me:

Re: US Bank: App for CC as a current customer

This whole thread is just wishful thinking, but I get it, you're still not willing to accept that.

Are they "relationship" based...to a certain extent, yes.

But to get in, you have to look like you're also looking for a "relationship" and not SUB chasing.

When you have 10 accounts within a year, it's kinda hard to make a case why they should approve.

This isn't specific to US Bank only. Even lenders who historically didn't pay too much attention to new accounts are now denying applicants for that reason, regardless of scores or income

Half the cards on your wishlist require some serious gardening. Tweeting, threads etc won't help.

I've been in app jail when I wanted Chase cards, followed by another app jail for US Bank cards.

That's the only thing that will work.

US Bank underwent serious UW changes February 2019, then made even more changes in June 2019, so experiences of those approved prior to that no longer carry much weight.

A couple of members did get approved for back to back US Bank cards but those were their first new cards in years, hence still meeting unofficial official policy of no more than two accounts in a year.

Re: US Bank: App for CC as a current customer

US Bank has always been conservative and cards like the Cash+ were never super easy to get, but in the last year or so they have cracked down a lot more with the 1/12 unofficial policy. I do not recall reading any reports where a banking relationship made any difference. I think you have to keep in mind that sometimes these policies are not just about risk. We tend to think a banking relationship makes us look less of a credit risk to a bank since they can see our deposits, etc, but a lot of these 1/12, 5/24, etc rules are strictly because banks are tired of customers juggling cards and would prefer you use one and stick to it. I think the rule with US Bank is a mixture of risk management and anti-churning.

But in any event I don't think a relationship is likely to help.  As stated above these policies are more about banks being tired of churning and reward chasing. A good score/good income/etc does not mean as much as it used to, for the purposes of obtaining rewards cards because banks know in that case you aren't likely a credit risk -- but they still don't want you juggling cards.
