On Tuesday 3/24 I app'd for US Bank checking, savings and Cash+ card. Checking and savings sent an email telling me that they would get back to me in 3-5 days. Did not recieve anything regarding the Cash+ application other than the original message telling me blah blah 7-10 days.
Called CS line and inquired about the checking/saving account Thursday 3/25 and they needed ID verification and I could fax or take my DL and social security card into a branch. I opt'd to go into the branch, they made copies and sent it to the verification department and told me that I would hear something in 2-3 days.
I kept calling the automated CC status line to see about the Cash+ application. Every time same message "We are unable to retrive your application information." I know with US Bank many card applications go to manual review and this is the typical message that you get until they actually put eyes on it. Today, Friday 3/27 I called again, same status, but I stayed on the line to be connected to someone and they told me it was declined for too many inquiries. I explained to them that I only had 1 recent inquiry for Bank of America credit card and there are 4 that are combined for an auto loan that I recieved in October 2025. They said okay and submitted the application for reconsideration and said 3-5 days I would hear something.
Now I wait knowing I SHOULD have got the checking/savings opened up FIRST and moved some cash over THEN app'd the Cash+. But you live and learn.
Anyone have similar experience with US Bank, I know they are averse to new accounts and inquiries and at least by what I have read value customers having deposit accounts with them.
Hopefully it all works out, if not then it was not meant to be right now.
My stats are;
Experian FICO 826 which they pulled.
1/6 and 2/12 inquiries
1/6 and 1/12 new credit card accounts
AAoA 8 years, Oldest 15 years
6 figure income
1 account reporting a balance 9K on a 55,600 limit card about 16%. total util 2%.
That's annoying! Not very good customer service.
Sorry to hear that. I opened a checking with them, they paid me a $500 bribe to take it. Then, after we were such great friends, I apped their connect visa, they paid another $500 bribe for that. Got another $250 for the shoppers visa. I spent about a year being turned down for clis, because my turd score was low. They finally got over that, approved clis with a hp.
This morning Saturday 3/28 I woke up to an email saying my checking and saving accounts are approved and opened. Maybe that will push along the Cash+ application since they have been able to identify me now. We will see next week!
Follow up, yesterday afternoon 3/31, I got a text to call in to Customer Authentication Department. I called in, verified phone number and address, she told me it would go to final underwriting for approval/denial and I would hear something by email in 24-48 hours.
An hour later I got an email saying approved and I checked my USB account online and there it was $15K limit. With the initial denial about inquiries and reading stories here and elsewhere about low starting limits like $500-$1000 for people with no prior relationship with USB, I am pleased with the limit. I thought for sure I would have to recon the starting limit but although I have many higher this will work just fine. We will see how it grows in the future.
