US Bank Cash+ application

I just submitted an app for the US Bank Cash+ card but I didn't receive an instant approval/denial. I got an email saying "Your application may be subject to further verification. You will be receiving additional information in the mail in 7-10 business days."

I have been a little trigger-happy with the apps lately, so I'm guessing this is going to be a denial. I've never had a CC application denied yet so I'm not sure how it is usually done.

Anyone ever experience this with US Bank and end up getting approved?

About 80% of US Bank applications go to manual review so that is pretty normal

Awesome news, thank you so much! Was feeling pretty bummed but at least now I have some hope Smiley LOL Not that it will be the end of the world if I'm denied, but those rotating categories look great.

Re: US Bank Cash+ application

Good luck!

Just FYI, if it does turn out to be a denial... you could still consider going for the Elan Max Cash Preferred "sister" version of this card. While Elan is still a conservative issuer, it's not quite as conservative as its U.S. Bank sister division. The Elan MCP is very similar to the U.S. Bank Cash+, with only some minor differences in categories.

Wow, thank you so much for that information, I had no idea that card exists. Looks like it would be a great fit if the US Bank version doesnt work out. Excellent news! I'll keep it in mind for sure.

Welcome to the forums, @bluetomorrow ! Out of curiosity, how many accounts have you opened in the last 6, and 12 month period? That is something that USB seems to be more sensitive toward than some other lenders.

Hello and thanks for the kind welcome!

I've been doing more research after applying (research which I should have done beforehand ☺️) and I think it's overwhelmingly likely I won't be approved. I'm at 5/12 and 3/6. I see many folks saying US Bank doesn't even like 1/12. I've been really rapid-fire opening new accounts lately, and I hadn't yet been denied for a card, so I wasn't thinking much about the individual banks' requirements.

Oh well, you live and learn, eh? This card (or the Elan version) will still be there next year. 😁

LOL yup! If you're over 1/12 you will not likely be approved. Some get through with more than that but usually with VERY strong profiles. The Elan seems to be a bit looser. We've seen pleanty of approvals for the MCP with people well over 1/12-usually when they haven't gone nuts in the last 6 months. I'm glad that you've had success this far! Good luck on landing one of those goal cards, even if it takes longer than originally planned! Smiley Happy

@Ficoproblems247

I'm pretty new to credit cards (2 years now on my oldest) and got a little overconfident with it, as you can see... 😆 but I've got some good cards (Amex Gold, BC Preferred) recently that I love and fit my spending patterns well.

The Cash+ would have plugged some holes for rewards but yep, it's my new goal card for sure! I think I've gotten pretty lucky with apps so far so I'll quit applying for the next year while I'm ahead.

Thanks again!

Re: US Bank Cash+ application

@bluetomorrow   Unfortunately, I may have to mirror what @Ficoproblems247 mentioned....I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, but the deck is stacked against you with USB right now. That's a lot of recent activity. However, if it ends in a denial.....don't let it deflate you....just sit tight for 12 months and try again. Or, as also mentioned....the Elan Max Cash is a bit less finicky with their criteria.

You mentioned you have added several new cards recently so enjoy your success and remember.....slow and steady wins the race when it comes to credit. It's difficult sometimes to convince yourself to pull back on the reins, but in the end you'll have much better success. Let your new cards age and good things will happen for you! Smiley Happy
