USAA AMEX Pre-Selected. Offer---DENIED...

Took the offer I had via USAA site--email--and snail mail only to be---DENIED. Reason given.....already at maximum extendedable credit allowed ($19K) THAT WAS A NEW ONE. Was offered the secured version instead--NO THANKS--don't need it quite happy with my single unsecured USAA Visa. My BIGGEST and only regret from this is it probably put another INQ on my EQ  Smiley Frustrated Treating those like a canteen full of water in Death Valley right now!! Maybe I was lucky and the decline happened before the CR pull was made....? I'll find out tomorrow.

Thanks sunkissed. Yes it is crappy, but it could have been worse....they could have did what AMEX did to me a few days ago and given me a $1000 limit. I'd rather have the denial---at least that's not another new worthless account on my credit report. Think I'm going to stay away from these pre-selected offers going forward Smiley Frustrated

You really would rather have an outright denial than a low limit but your foot in the door? I'm side-eyeing you right now lol. Especially with AMEX. Did you try a CLI on activation?

Re: USAA AMEX Pre-Selected. Offer---DENIED...

@Credit-hawk: I'm already an AMEX customer and have been for 2..5 years. I have the Green charge and the BCE @ $17K. I posted another thread about the AMEX ED they pre-selected me for and approved for $1000 a few days ago. Great terms but a lousy limit I can't do anything with.

I completely understand your frustration with the small limit given your other limits. The same thing happened to me with my BCP. I have an average card limit of roughly $10k throughout my cards so I was just as shocked as you when I saw a $2k SL. But as it's my first AMEX and many have experienced the same low SL, particularly with the BCP I wasn't terribly upset. I assume I can multiply it soon enough. I don't know whether to try for it now or wait the 60 days.

Admittedly, it does tweak me when I see people in the 600s FICO tier getting higher AMEX SL's than me but I'm sure I've had higher SL's than people that scored higher than me before, too. Sometimes there's no rhyme or reason. While it may take some time you can see $10k on that card within a year possibly.

Re: USAA AMEX Pre-Selected. Offer---DENIED...

@Credit-hawk: Now you hopefully understand why I said I'd rather have a denial at this point than have another new card with a toy limit on my CR---BUT THE ONLY EXCEPTION to that would be is if it was a bank I'm not already with and they gave me a low limit like $2K just to establish myself with them--THAT would be understandable. I've been with USAA and AMEX going on 3 years---wouldn't expect a toy limit or a denial on a pre-selected offer from either of them--- but that's what I got. BTW: the INQ from the USAA app hit my EQ today--but THANKFULLY it didn't reduce my score any!!
