USAA CLI Request

For those of you on the forum with USAA card:

Do you know how long the offer to increase CLI lasts on the USAA website?  It will be six months for me on June 23rd.  I don't feel that my profile is good enough to request a CLI, especially since I still have too many inquiries from purchasing a vehicle last year, but I don't want to waste an inquiry?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You have an offer from them? Generally their offers are pretty solid but your mileage may vary. You can request CLI every six months as you know and they are ALWAYS a hard pull. I usually cold request and have never had an offer, but have not been turned down for a CLI either. Scores are in my signature. Good luck!

Re: USAA CLI Request

The offer hasn't  come up yet, but I'm a less than 3 weeks off from 6 months.  Would like to see the increase in CLI, but would hate to waste a hard pull.  Didn't know if it was an open ended offer that I could let sit there for a couple of months (trying to work on uti).  Don't intend to apply for any other cards until next summer.  Would like to add Discover to profile.  Have given up on Barclays.  Do you just have 1 with USAA?  Tried for the MC right after applying for the VISA but was turned down.  Don't know if hard pull should be used to try for MC again.  My EQ was 620 when I got the preapproved offer.  Would current scores pass for a CLI?

I had three unsecured USAA cards, but closed one a few months ago. USAA will hard pull for each CLI request unless you do them back to back online I believe. There is more to a credit limit increase than scores though; they will weigh your overall profile, baddies, utilization, inquiries and history with your current card. I used mine but not a lot, I had cleared out my baddies so my report was relatively clean and although I had lots of inquiries and new accounts USAA apparently didn't hold it against me. Again YYMV. If you really want an increase try for it, just go in knowing it will most likely be another HP. Good luck.

ETA: I think they pull EQ for CLI so you may want that score a bit higher.

Re: USAA CLI Request

No baddies.  Only baddie I had was Verizon and it fell off months ago.  I have too many inquiries from dealer rate shopping.  Next 6 months will be in December.  Most of the inquiries happened in late June, July, and early August as I was indecisive about what vehicle to get (will never do that again).  Maybe I should wait till December.  EQ score hopefully should go up as I will hit the year mark on some of the inquiries.  Guess I'm just not being patient enough.  This time last year had no unsecured credit.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Next time use USAA for auto financing lol. FICO usually scores auto inquiries as one within 30 days, if that's any help. I know where you're coming from, see my signature, my credit repair journey started January 2014. Patience will pay off. I wish you the best!

Re: USAA CLI Request

That was my plan originally, but with my EQ score last year at 583, they wanted to do 14.9.  Ended up with 3.9 with BBVA but ended up with all the inquiries.  Next time it will be better as my score is improving.  Thanks for the encouragement.

Wow that is a great rate with BBVA, and I probably would have gone the same route. You have USAA, are you eligible to join Navy Federal? I've found the best auto rates with them and they approved mine with a 630 EQ. I'm happy to help and encourage so if you ever have a question, PM me. Smiley Happy

Re: USAA CLI Request

I thought so given how bad my credit was at the time.  Can't do NFCU.  I was Army, but I have considered SDFCU or Penfed.  Again,  thanks for all your help.
