Hi all,
Appoved for Altitude Connect 9.21, submitted app for Cash+ 9.24 (denial expected but figured might as well try) called for status 9.27 and rep stated app was denied. Reason given, USB would like to see positive payment history with their specific card. 1st USB card, totally reasonable.
However, letter has arrived and sole reason listed is, "maximum amount of unsecured credit already available". I'm completely fine with USB taking $500 out of the $2000 Connect limit to open Cash+ if possible, but is it worth a recon attempt or should I stick to original plan and wait 6-12 months? Don't need high limits in general, only had fingers crossed for at least $2k+ with Connect based on intended flight purchase. I've since purchased and paid for a $1650 flight so balance is back to $0 but I'm sure the rep meant long term usage so that might not mean anything. Not sure about the discrepancy between reps denial reason and letter though.
Advice please! Thanks

Phone call won't cost you anything and if you don't ask you don't get. No real reason why you shouldn't call tomorrow and ask for a reconsideration.
Don't expect them to reallocate limit from the Connect but you might be able to talk the analyst into giving you a $500 approval.
The official reason for denial is consistent with what the rep told you why you were denied, what you got was the most they were willing to give you based on you having no real track record with them.

Ah, I see. So the maximum credit available is because of the lack of relationship/history. Didn't think of it that way but makes sense. I will mull it over but sort of non-confrontational by nature so might bungle a conversation where I'm basically attempting to advocate for myself after a no. @coldfusion Would you happen to know if there's a recon timeframe limit? Like a certain # of days from letter date where reconsideration is no longer an option?

Correct as to the maximum limit available reasoning. If you develop a consistent pattern of usage and prompt payment successful soft-pull CLI requests will be in your future. Hard limit of 30 days after you initially submitted the application to be able to recon but I wouldn't suggest you let this languish anywhere near that long.
@coldfusion Thank you! Super helpful. I wouldn't go beyond next Friday, roughly two weeks from letter. Have to pep talk myself into it.
The analyst won't be looking to give you a hard time, just give some thought beforehand about the reasons you want to give as to why you really want this card and how you plan on using it regularly. Don't be afraid to type out a few crib notes ahead of time that you can refer to while on the phone...good luck!!!!

@coldfusion you were right, analyst was very nice. Wasn't willing to extend additional credit but accepted taking $500 from Connect. Thought about it but nope. Going to appreciate and baby this card for a year and hopefully that'll be enough history. Happy to have a card with 4% back in my highest spend category and want to work on profile for better spree results in the future. Thank you for the help!
