Should I Apply for this Credit Card?

The card is called US Bank Shopper Rewards.  It has a $95 annual fee, but it is waived the first year.  It has some good features like 6% cashback on two large retailers of your choice.  In my case I honestly wouldn't be using it very much.

The only reason I would apply for this card is that you get a $250 sign-up bonus after making $2,000 of purchases.   I would definitely cancel the card after the first year.

Do you think that I should apply for the card under those circumstances?  I've always been approved by US Bank so that won't be a problem.

Re: Should I Apply for this Credit Card?

@MitchDeerfield Are you interested in any other credit cards USB offers? If yes, after the first year you may be able to PC to something else rather than close. Will you need to increase your spending solely to meet the bonus amount? If yes, I'd say this isn't worth it for you.

If your profile supports an application and you want it then sure. Doesn't sound like you really want or need it though. Although some people open cards solely for the bonus offers, thats not uncommon around here.

If they don't have anything you would want to pc after a year I would not spend a hp and new account over a little above average sub.

Re: Should I Apply for this Credit Card?

I don't need it but the extra $250 would be nice.  I have to make a $1600 tax payment next month so it wouldn't be hard to spend the rest in the first four months.  I just feel a little bit guilty about just spending $2,000 and not using it much after that.

Re: Should I Apply for this Credit Card?

Just a heads up that card does not come with 0 apr period. You can always product change it into something more beneficial after the first year. The Cash + is a great card with no yearly fee.

@MitchDeerfield Take the personal emotions out of it. I like USB but its still a business so guilt wouldn't factor into my credit card decisions. $250 is nice but its not exactly life changing so its entirely up to you on whether or not you're comfortable opening a card and having it collect dust until you decide to close. I'm not into the popular sock drawer method on MF, closing three cards next week without a second thought, but thats me. Different strokes for different folks. Smiley Wink

I took your good advice and applied for the card and was approved with a generous $15K credit line.

I'd ask US Bank to change the card to Cash Plus after the year's over, but they don't do PC.

  • I usually get approved by US Bank, BofA, Citi, Chase.

I never get approved by Capital One and Bread Comenity.   Oh well.

Congrats! Awesome SL Smiley Very Happy You're more likely dodging a bullet than missing out on anything with Capital One. Smiley LOL

Deleted.  Figured out the answer to my own question.
