Updated: Capital One QS1 CLI

Hey everyone!

I applied for the Cap 1 QS1 (w/ annual fee) 08/09/21 and was approved at $3000 and there have been 5 statements cut so far with each statement reporting following balances:

Sept: $543

Oct: $1787

Nov: $1290

Dev: $1908

Jan: $2604

I have made multiple payments in a month and have spent maybe 15k on the card so far. I wanted to let Feb report $0 but it seems the payment made last night will not reflect on the statement set to be cut off on Feb 13 (today---usually ends on the 16) as it is still processing. Therefore, Feb statement will likely show $1335.

I have a Ch7 BK discharged in March of 2021 and applied for Cap1 Plat (April) and QS1 (August) and was approved with a SL of $3000 each. The Plat got a auto CLI of $300 after 6th statement but no where near the same spend as QS1.

I am expecting a CLI on the QS1 after 6th statement. Am I in a good position to get one or even a product change?

Credit profile:

Exp: 659

Overall usage: 10%

11 open accounts

9 revolving of which 7 AU and 2 personal

2 installment loans - 1 auto lease and 1 student loan

3 closed accounts - no collections (burned Disco, Amex, Citi, Chase)

Last late payment: Dec 2020

1 public record - ch7 bk filed 12/07/2020 and discharged in Mar. 2021

7 late payments

What other credit cards can I go for?

I recently received a pre approval at the counter for the BJ's Mastercard.

Edit: received auto cli to $5500 and then requested an additional increase via the online system and received 2-3 day notice.

It's the weekend, which tends to be slower, plus it's Superbowl Sunday, so it's even more slower than normal - you will probably not get many replies until tomorrow. For me, it's not so much which cards I can apply for, but what those cards can do for me (in terms of points, cash back, etc.) Are you thinking long term cards to keep, or just any card that'll approve you since your BK is still relatively fresh?

Edited to add: when was your last late payment?

Re: Capital One QS1 CLI

Thank you for your response!

Its more about cards I can grow and use to re-establish credit.

Update: statement came out yesterday but no cli and last late was Dec 2020

If you're looking for cards to actually grow with (and keep long-term? or just simply cards that could "grow?"), try maybe Navy if you qualify. Otherwise, you've burned most of the big players, so I wouldn't expect to get back in with any of them any time soon.

Also, as you saw, there are absolutely no guarantees with Cap One, especially when it comes to CLIs. To be honest, since your card started at $3k, and since the credit steps program seems to be a thing of the past, I wouldn't expect much in the way of CLIs. It's like pulling teeth with them. As for a PC, again, it just depends if you qualify for one or not.

Re: Capital One QS1 CLI

It would be long term. That's why I've avoided cards like credit one.

I can't do nfcu, but I am a PenFed member for about a year now with a substantial amount sitting in a checking account without being touched over that year. I was thinking maybe PenFed?

Also can do a TD secured at 5k which seems to graduate at 6th or 7th statement.

Any other suggestions? I've checked all SP pre approval sites but no luck

Experian has matched me with Savor one but doesn't show on Cap1 pre qualification tool

Re: Capital One QS1 CLI

Penfed could work, but I'm not familiar with their policies regarding a BK still showing.

Same goes for TD Bank. Not sure on their BK policy.

It's just a bit tough with a relatively fresh Bk still showing.

Re: Capital One QS1 CLI

Cap1 cards are terrible for growth and when they do it's small CLI many times. If that's what you are looking for you need to look elsewhere in the card world as there are much better options out there like NFCU and PenFed for just two examples.

Re: Capital One QS1 CLI

It's really unfortunate they are seriously conservative with their CLIs.

I've put more than 15k spend on a 3k card and if that does not warrant review I don't know what would...

Any thoughts on the secured card and PenFed? I will likely wait till August to apply. My existing 2 inquiries would be at least a year old and I figured I would be in a much better position to submit 3-4 apps
