People were always getting denied, even when the "train" was in full force. Despite trends, it doesn't mean Capital One had abandoned all underwriting and was just giving out Ventures for no reason. It was a strange trend, but it wasn't going to last forever and if your profile doesn't support it you can still get declined.
I really don't understand why so many people even want a restricted 2% AF card other than for the first year but to each their own.

Quicksilver Visa[6000], Amazon Rewards Visa [8500], Sallie Mae [5000], BJ's Elite Mastercard [2500], Discover IT [12200], Amex BCE [5000]. Gardening through all of 2015 - focusing on APR/CLIs. Last INQ 12/23
As of 3/9/2015 - EQ 718, TU 745, EX 729Restricted? I guess you never fly, stay at a hotel or go on vacation? To each there own, no FTF for those who travel overseas. I think this is where you get hung up on, there is reason for paying $59 annaul fee. CSP is $95. I don't understand why you keep saying RESTRICTED, to me it isn't.
Yep. For me the Venture makes perfect sense—we travel a lot (mostly internationally), primarily stay in Airbnb rentals (thus don't really care about hotel points), and other than American—which I already have an AAdvantage Platinum Select—aren't beholden to a particular airline (and also don't usually care about flying biz or first). That's the type of traveler that reaps rewards from the Venture in spades.
I'm new to the forums and to finally getting my credit in the upper 600s. I got card fever today. I wanted a card for travel rewards. After some research I decided to try for the Venture card. I was stoked to receive an instant approval for $15K!!!! I guess I got in just in time too! This is now my highest CL. I also have a NFCU nRewards card that just got increased from $500 to $12K. I can't wait to start using that Venture card and racking up those points!
KeliGyrl, did you get pre-approved before you applied? Also, you said upper 600, are we talking like 650+ I am trying to decide if I should go for this one, this one being my last last last card I apply for. I promise, I am done if I get this one, there is nothing I need after getting all the cards I wanted for this year.

Sigh.
I'm "hung up' because you are restricted to redeeming the 2% against travel if you want the full value, and the miles do not mean anything more than cashback (i.e. they don't transfer or anything like that).
So it is merely a 2% cashback card, with an annual fee, that you can't redeem for everything you want with. The no FTF is about the only "travel" related thing. Most people are going to much better off with a plain 2% cashback card like Double Cash that has no fee and lets you redeem for anything you want. Even a QS can come out ahead with no fee at 1.5% depending on spend.
The Venture is pure marketing, and that's all that it is.
