I was just wondering how accurate Wells Fargo's Pre-Qualification system was. Has anyone been denied by pre-qual and had their application accepted?
I would never get a pre-qualification offer through the online WF site logged into my banking account but they had been mailing me Reflect card offers for at least 6 months prior to applying as part of a spree and I got approved. Also surprised I got approved for the Bilt card as well on blind app as part of the spree.
DP's:
- Around 700 FICO
- Post BK 3 years
- Under 30% Utilization
BTW - Truist pre-qualification would also have no offers for over a year until one popped up during this same spree. I accepted the prequal and was approved 6K with no HP oddly. No previous relationship. I went ahead and opened a checking account afterwards for the $300 new account promo.
Not sure 100% on their reliability but I can share my experience with the PQ tool.
I had no WF accounts of any kind and checked the tool for 2 years every 1-2 months, no joy. Then 3 months ago it gave me some offers on the PQ submission, and I took the shot. Whadya know, 20k 1st account SL with them with I think 18mos at 0% purchases and BT. So it worked for me.
I have since completed their $325 ck acct bonus as well. YMMV
I thnk your chance of approval with a Wf prequal is like 40%.
goof luck either way, but hty are conservative and shady as all getout

Back in the day I got denied for having 3 inquires in 3-6 months forWells Fargo Propel Card so they are inquiry sensitive.
I was approved for WF Autograph today, Nov. 25, after their pre-qualification site showed me prequalified for all of their credit cards.
No previous Wells Fargo relationship.
I was 1/6, 2-3/12 and 2-3/24. (Depending on whether my Nov. 22 last year card had counted as dropped off or not).
774 Fico Experian score.
I have 5 other open credit card accounts.
My only other experience with bank pre qualification site accuracy has been:
4) myself and my partner each prequalified for Capital One Savor and Venture X and then immediately approved for both (5-months apart), -- CAPITAL ONE 100% accurate for us --
2) my partner prequalified for American Express Delta Skymiles Gold and BCE and then immediately approved for both (2 months apart), -- AMERICAN EXPRESS 100% accurate for us --
1) my partner prequalified for Bank of America CCR but then automatically NOT approved. -- BOA's undependable.
We in general are applying for new cards with approx. 6-months between applications. No missed payments, no interest accruing, no financial problem history, but also only ~ $50k income, some student loans.
I think you have like an 80%+ chance of approval if you get pre-qualified. Plus, not getting prequalified doesn't mean you'd definitely get rejected.
