My wife holds the CapOne Walmart credit card and I'm an Authorized User. We opened the card in Feb 2020 at $500 SL, got an automatic increase in Nov 2020 to $750 after many CLI requests were denied, and now a few months after that CLI we've been applying for more. We keep asking for more because we spend at least $500/month and keep having to pay it down so that the utilization stays low. I'm a fan of setting to automatic "pay in full" each month and don't want to keep going through the same hassle as the last 1.5 years. So we called the number through the CapOne app and asked if there's any sort of reconsideration to which they said that no one on their end has the power to effect a CLI and to just refer to the details in the letter (always says they're still analyzing how we handle the current limit). I asked, ok so who has the power to reconsider/approve the CLI if she/manager can't. She said only we have the power, through the app, to request one.
Has anyone ever had luck getting a Walmart CLI denial reconsidered?
I would just stop using the card for in store purchases (because after 12 months the 5% in store turns back to 2% and I have other 2% cards), but it's sort of nice for all our Walmart purchases to be on the card and through Walmart Pay which stores all the receipts. I could also scan the receipt into the app, but that's extra work haha... I may end up just using a different card and scanning the receipts, it's probably the same amount of work as having to go pay off the card frequently.
All CapOne CLI requests are un-reconable, be it the Walmart card, or one of their legacy cards.
^^^ this. CapOne is run by the computer. It decides everything and it seems no human has the ability to recon or override its decisions. You're basically at its mercy.
Yeah, I agree with the replies above. I have no idea why they do not allow a human to over ride decisions like that. I am sure certain ones are declined in error
Thanks
Mark
Yeah, there won't be any human intervention on your CLI denial. It's all done by computer.
From what I've read here on myFICO, Cap1 used to be pretty good about doing recons.
I wish you luck on your next request.
My Walmart Cap One is at $400 (started at $300) if it makes you feel better lol. They gave me the measly $100 increase in March so I'm getting the "we recently increased your limit" denial reason. We'll see what reason it switches to after 6 months (apparently they'll only consider CLI every 6 months).
When you start with a low limit with Cap One it's best to accept your card is bucketed and will likely never grow much. I now use my Amex BCP for grocery pickup on the Walmart app (6% cash back).
My Walmart card had a $10,000 limit when CapOne acquired it--and there it sits! Almost two years and its limit hasn't budged.
I have two other CapOne cards, and every attempt at asking for a CLI has resulted in one stupid denial reason or another.
I guess my point is....what everyone else is saying! Basically CapOne is not generous with CLIs and there's not much you can do, like ask a real human to override a decision. Since you have other cards with good rewards, use them instead.
No recon for Capital One CLI's. I hate Capital One when it comes to CLI's I want to close my cards sometimes cause of it they are so protective with giving them out.

I hear you! It's frustrating when you're a good, long-time (almost 10 years for me) customer, never missed a payment, never pays just the minimum due, etc., and every CLI request gets denied. Ugh.
