AmEx is the next major lender I would really like to get in with since Chase enacted their new policy about UR earning credit cards. Scores in my sig are current, what do you think my chances of getting in with AmEx are and what cards would be suggested? I think I will wait another few weeks as I just paid off a large percentage of my CC debt and my scores should increase some more as those balances report over the next 2-3 weeks, after that settles my utilization should be somewhere under 10%. I know charge cards are supposedly easier to get, but would like do do a charge and revolver if possible on the same pull as I've heard is possible if doing back to back.
I would wait until your new utilization reports and your scores go up a bit more. I would go for the Amex you want first, then the next. BCE or BCP is a good one. I only have the one so you should wait to hear from others.
With your scores you should have no problem getting approved. I would recommend either the Blue Cash Everyday (BCE) card or the Everyday (ED) card (your choice as to whether you prefer cash back or points). I was approved for the ED card with scores in the mid-600's, very thin file, 2 collections showing, and 5 late pays, so I bet if you app now you'll be approved.
Wait for your scores to cross the 700 mark. If it doesn't happen with the pay down to 10% continue to just another month with lower utilization.
That should get you past 700 on 1 or 2 scores and get you the card you actually want. it's better to get what you want than just to get another card.
AMEX is a good company. I have two cards with them.

1. I just want to say I've been "in with AmEx" for the past year, and I don't find them so great. I've had an overpriced charge card for a year, with a high annual fee, perks for which I have little use, and no reporting to credit agencies so it isn't even useful for building credit. And I've had 2 Amex revolving accounts, also for a year, on which I can't beg, borrow, or steal a CLI, and which have no balance transfer options. So getting "in with Amex" is a pretty meaningless thing IMHO.
2. I think the easiest revolving credit card to get from them at the moment is their "plenti" card, because they're trying hard to peddle it, and getting a ho-hum response from the public. I've seen many people saying you could qualify for the everyday card and blue cash card, but I can tell you I've been turned down for blue cash with higher scores than yours. People often say that Delta Gold is the easiest to qualify for, and that might be so, but that's one of the cards for which I haven't been able to get a CLI, stuck with a low limit of 2000.
Besides your scores, what does your Experian profile look like? Number of inquiries? Number of new accounts? Average account age? Any bad entries? If so, how old and what type?

I feel you Sj. It may seem that way now. But before march it was not. even new members could be backdated. Delta and Ed easy. op scores are fine. he could get in now. but best to wait for better results. Im keeping my Amex cards. But both are now Sd and paid in full. maybe will use delta when i travel. but like you i have no incentive to use. i have much better cards than Amex. including my cap one cards. Both QS and Venture.

23 inquiries, 14 of which are related to car shopping multiple times in the last year. Average age is low at 2 years 5 months (I'm only 25). Something like 5 new accounts in the last year. 1 30 day late from Cap1 in January 2011 (I was young and dumb). I would like to swing for the EveryDay Preferred card and thePremiere Rewards Gold card in one swing as I commute a long distance to work which means lots of gas purchases and I also eat out pretty often. I like the points earning cards as I already have a Citi DC for my cashback card and would like to get into points and such to help me save for that dream vacation, eventually. However, If I could get approved for the BCP that would be great as well as 6% on groceries is no joke
Anyone have any more insight after my additional info? I'm aiming to app around September 1st to let all the account I've paid off cycle all the way through
