Re: Wanting to apply for American Express EveryDay card

With a single APR, it looks solid; however, I would wait for the bonus offer and a lower APR.  DH and I just checked prequals for him with AMEX and he got the exact same offer as you with an EX of 780!  His age of accounts is similar to yours, but has two credit cards only...both opened this year.  If it was me, I would wait.  You most likely would be approved, but the starting limit would be low IMO.

If you wait it out, you'll get sign up offers, a better APR, and a decent starting limit (which will grow nicely if you tend it well Smiley Happy )

Good luck in whatever you decide!  Keep us posted if you decide to apply, please.

Re: Wanting to apply for American Express EveryDay card

Thank you for your help.

I would love to get this card but I am willing to wait for a more desirable offer.

I would prefer a much better apr due to my credit history and some sort of bonus offer as well !

I am working on getting my utilization down so that they will make me a better offer.

Is he going to apply for the offer ?

Do you think 50% utilization would be good enough to get a better offer ?

Re: Wanting to apply for American Express EveryDay card

He's being macho and won't apply until he gets a better offer than I did!  Lol

i really don't know what they'd do regarding utilization.  My overall was 49% with one credit card showing 65% utilization.  I know, had I waited and paid down my util, I would have had a better starting line.  Luckily, I did something they liked and they gave me the full 3x CLI after 61 days.  Overall util was 22% at CLIwith one card showing 61% util and another reporting 58%!  I had also added another Cap One for $10,000 within a week of applying for my BCE.  12 Inquiries on EX at CLI, 10 when I initially applied.

I have a long history with a 30 day over 2.5 years ago.  I apped with high utilization, a lot of inquiries, 6 new accounts in the last two years, and. 30 day.  I should have been a cautionary tale.  Not sure why Amex likes me so much, but I'm good with it!

I hope they like you too, when you are ready.

I received a preapproval message with the following information.

This offer does not come with an intro apr or welcome bonus offer.

Variable rate on purchases and ballance transfers

Currently 23.74 %

This information is on both the ED card and the BCED card offers.

Does this look like a good offer ?

Seems like a pretty awful offer.  I would pass.  Why not get a card from another bank to lower your utilization and come back later.

Re: Wanting to apply for American Express EveryDay card

Yeah that is not a good offer. That looks like the top end of the APR range and no bonus... no thanks.

I just got an offer in the mail for ED with 15k bonus points (instead of the usual 10k) and at 17.24% APR after 0% for 12 months. I turned it down because I already have a BCE and just don't have much need for MR points.

My BCE signup bonus was 0% for 12 months (20.24% after, not like I care about APR anyway), $100 credit after $1,000 spend, AND 10% statement credit on up to $2,000 in restaurant purchases (up to $200 additional credit) in the first 6 months. Rumor has it this bonus has been available as $250 + $200 (10% restaurant credit) in the recent past.

With Amex it's worth it to wait until you can get a good bonus.

Re: Wanting to apply for American Express EveryDay card

I'd wait for a sign up bonus. I was able to App for ED @ 17.74 APR and then 25K points after 1000$ spend plus 0% For 12 months.

A week later I apped for BCE. I think the same APR or lower. 250$ Bonus after 1000$ spend in 3 months plus 0% for 15 months.

I'm not sure when they cycle through adding new offers to their cards. It would give you time to lower utilization on Lowe's.

My data points when applying... 690 EX (What they pulled), AAOA - 6 Months, Overall Utilization 16% (However had a Wayfair account that was at 70% due to recent financing), Inquires 7 for ED and 9 For BCE.

I think you look good for apping but wouldn't simply for the fact that the offer seems very weak. I have a VERY short credit history so the 17% was fine but I'd think you'd be able to get better for sure.

Good Luck no matter what you decide. I really like my AMEX cards especially BCE and I know you will too.
