Was hoping to apply for the CSR in branch, but I made a foolish mistake...

I was planning on applying for the Chase Sapphire Reserve tomorrow since my statement with Capital One would have been closed and posted by now. I had it all planned out, on the first of the month I got a 3k CLI with Capital One and was just waiting for it to post. I thought it would be a great idea to pay my balance down completely before it was due so my utilization would say 0% and boost my scores just a little more.

Turns out, that since I don't owe anything Capital One doesn't send a statement and won't be updating my credit limit until my next statement in March (assuming I have a balance). I called and was pretty much told that I was S.O.L., and that they could send a balance letter to me in the mail that would have my current limit.

My question is, if I go in branch and get denied, can I show them my real credit limit on the balance letter to help sway the result? Or am I better off waiting until March, hoping to get in before the 100k offer is over.

And then to make it even worse I was also going to apply for the PenFed Cash Rewards right after the sapphire reserve, which would have been perfect timing since the PenFed card won't be available for much longer.

So it seems like I have three options:

1) Apply to PenFed, then wait until March for Chase (I'll be 3/24 by the time I apply)

2) Wait up to 10 business days for the balance letter and hope it makes a difference in my Chase application

3) Just go to Chase and apply, see what happens, and then apply to PenFed.

What do you guys think?

Side note, I've been a Chase Savings and Checkings customer for almost three years.

If the score in your signature are current andate your utilization is low.. I would say  go for it. They can also check to see if you are pre-approved for it.

Scores are accurate, but I'm not 21 yet, so no pre approvals for me Smiley Sad

Pre-Approvals even in branch for the CSR don't exist currently this is well documented as of recently.. Your scores are within the range of the CSR and as long as your are under 5x24 you have .a decent shot IMO.  It is only 1 o 2 HP's.  I think you have a shot.. What is your current utilization is it 0 or higher, kinda confused at your earlier post.  Nothing in life is guranteed, sometimes you got to take a leap of faith especially in the credit world.  I have been amazed being approved for some CC that I thought they would laugh at me about Smiley Happy

Yeah this is my second month as 0% utilization. I think I may just go in and try tomorrow morning, I've been waiting for a while and it's been driving me crazy lol

You should be good. The nice thing about applying in branch is the bankers try to push it through if you have half way decent credit which you do. I didn't see what your income was. This is a Visa infinite product which means you need at least a 10k starting limit so your income needs to justify them giving you that. Aside from that you're as good as you're going to be by march so go for it and keep us updated. Good luck.

40k? And you're saying whether they see 6k or 3k wont really make a difference?

Two years, and whichever PenFed one gives 5% gas, the Gas Rewards maybe? I forgot the exact name but it's similar to the new one.
