Was told to call into citi after app

I got a message to call into citi after my AA business app. I called in and they said my app was still processing and I will need to call back in a couple of days. I have never been told this by a credit card company before. I have always either been told the decision or told to wait for a letter in the mail in 7-10 days. Has anyone ever had a situation when they app for a credit card, call in to speak with someone and get told to call back in a few days while the app processes? Just trying to determine if ther is a problem and I need to go to a different lender to get a card.

When I check the email link it says I can check back in 24 hours and they will notify me in a week by mail.

Re: Was told to call into citi after app

It's happened to me, but usually to verify the name & address of a business.  It's never happened when the business already has an existing relationship with the Issuer.

It's probably just verification. It's a pretty common situation. I wouldn't worry.

I have a personal relationship with issuer but no business cards with them.

Thanks. Hope so. Its just that they are making me call back instead of just taking the verification information that alarmed me.

Ok, it's to verify the business name and address.

Last time it happened to me, it was for the AA card (personal, not business)

You probably have to call back because of the public holiday.  I wouldn't be too worried about it.  Enjoy some BBQ tomorrow, call Tuesday, and more likely than not, you'll have a new AA card a few days later.  (Citi loves to overnight cards to me)

Never had that happen to me, but if it isn't for verification then I'm not sure what other reasoning would be.

Re: Was told to call into citi after app

I got the exact same message last month with my Diamond Preferred app... it was maddening.  Smiley Frustrated

In my case I kept checking the website for status (just like the message you got, mine mentioned "24 hours" so I expected something fairly quickly).

Eventually after over two weeks I called them, and was told it was still processing and that I would be contacted.  Finally, a couple of days later I got another email (seriously) telling me they needed me to call, so I called and they basically verified a few things from my app and called me back on my cell phone (to verify the number) and finally I was approved.  The entire process from application to card in-hand took nearly a month.

I'm not sure if I would have to go through this if I app for another Citi card, but it was the most drawn-out experience I've had with a credit card application since the days back when applications were mailed USPS.  The approval made it worth it in the end, though.  Smiley Happy

I'm sure your's is something similar... hang in there!  Smiley Wink

Re: Was told to call into citi after app

I checked online and I was approved for an initial credit line of 30k, which seems like a bit much on an initial approval. I had some baddies that have been falling off, but I thougt they would all be gone next month. Maybe everything dropped off this month.
