Weird BoA application process

I applied for the BoA Travel Rewards card on 3/10. About a week later, I received a letter from them asking for income verification. I called the backdoor number provided here and was approved for $1000 after a couple of minutes.

Now I go on my merry way thinking that I should have my card in about a week. Well, a week goes by and I finally call the application review number and they said that my decision was mailed out on the 25th so I should have it in a few days. At this point, I'm wondering what happened to make it take so long but no harm no foul.

I get a letter in the mail today from BoA and I'm ectastic thinking it's my card. Instead, I find a denial letter. At this point, I'm fuming and its a good thing my sister dragged me to grab lunch before I did something stupid.

I end up calling BoA again using the backdoor number for a Sr. Credit Analyst who was kind enough to transfer me to the right department since she only dealt with existing accounts. I then spoke with a very nice gentleman explaining what had happened and he pulled my file up and put me on hold for about 5 minutes. At this point, I'm wondering what in the world is going on. He came back and asked for my permission to reopen the application which I provided. He then said that something had happened to my application inbetween the approval and when they were going to send it to me and that they had attempted to call me. I broke in at this point and said that I had not received any voicemails from BoA and he was like "Yeah, I'm not sure why one wasn't left. But it seems somewhere along the line we screwed up. I'm sorry for the bad first impression, but we do want your business."

End result is that I was reapproved for the card with the same limit and it is being expedited to me. I'm not encouraged by the start, but at least the folks in the backroom seem helpful.

Re: Weird BoA application process

I had a similar experience this week with BoA. I applied for the BankAmericard and was told it was going to review. By the next morning, the application had been approved with a limit of $500. With that being the lowest limit I had on any CC, I called in to recon and asked for an increase. After several minutes of questions and being put on hold, the lady said she would be able to increase the limit to $3000.

Fast forward to today and I receive a letter from them stating that they were unable to give me the $3000 limit, and instead gave me a $1500 limit. Needless to say, I was confused. I'm not going to call in again at the risk of another HP, but I am beginning to regret ever apping to begin with.

Maybe some of their credit analysts went rogue Smiley Wink

I was definitely regretting the HP and I better not see another one from them reopening the application.

BoA has been very strange lately, almost like I have been dealing with Cap 1.

Congrats! Stick with them. They treat you well. I started with $1,000 and at the two month mark asked for a CLI and they bumped me up another $3,500.

Re: Weird BoA application process

Thanks folks! I'm planning on staying with them and seeing what I can do with CLIs to raise my limit. I'll probably wait 6 months and then go from there.
