Weird CLI Denial Kohl's HELP

So I asked for a CLI with Kohl's because I've been at $700 for 7 months now.

They HP'd me and it was an instant denial.

Then I just got the letter in the mail which says:

No Usable Real Estate Accounts (why does that matter)
Time since oldest account opened is too recent (5 years)
Available credit on open Bankcard accounts is too low (over 8k available)
High Inquiries (7)

None of those reasons really make sense for increasing a $700 CL...

But my main 2 issues are this:

It says Date of this information was from 07/28, yet THEY DID A HARD PULL ON 9/12 FOR THIS CLI REQUEST.

It says credit score 652 on a scale of 501 to 990?
(My FICO scores since July are up at least 30-50 points currently 695-702) and how is it a scale of 501-990.

What are your thoughts? Now that they've done a HP it's pretty annoying they provided this information for their denial.

Re: Weird CLI Denial Kohl's HELP

C'mon - they can list any reason for saying "no" - it's still gonna be "no". You don't like their reasons? Try some of the reasons I have seen:

There is a bank closer to your residence than us

Too many inquiries (one - theirs)

Too many open lines of credit and Too Few open lines of Credit at the same time.

Revolving debt too high (it was $0)

Too little revolving debt ($0)

Average Age of Accounts too short (over 10 years)

and you can also add others that, while I haven't seen yet, I suspect will become commonplace soon:

Incoming Tude

Outgoing Tide

Last Solar Eclipse too recent

Re: Weird CLI Denial Kohl's HELP

Okay, BUT

A) They're pulling a score from 7/28 despite doing a HP during the CLI request 40+ days later.

B) FICO scoring goes to 850, not 990. Also my scores were much higher in September vs. July which is why I'm posting.

Re: Weird CLI Denial Kohl's HELP

I am currently at $3000 and last month when I heard they were raising the ceiling, I decided to hit the CLI button.  I was denied and waited for the letter.  The letter made it seem like they did a HP, which listed a credit score and the various (vague) reasons for denial similar to yours, but there was no HP on any of my reports so although it looks like a HP, in my case it was not.  I would check your reports to make sure a HP was actually done.  Let us know what you find out.

Re: Weird CLI Denial Kohl's HELP

I checked my reports immediately after doing to CLI request which is what told me a HP was done . Smiley Sad

It's very odd though that they would do a HP, then for their decision use information from a SP from 40+ days prior it makes no sense at all.

Ahaha very true never apped for Kohl's but I've also read they give all kinds of odd reasons for denial for many people with different credit profiles.

Re: Weird CLI Denial Kohl's HELP

What's your total CL across all of your accounts? What's your util %?

I'm having a hard time believing that they did a hp for a CLI- that is VERY odd for Cap1 on their retail cards. Has anyone else reported having this happen?

Also more than likely, they are using a internal scoring model, based off of one of the bureaus. That 990 max probably is an internal maximum score.
NFCU $60.4k/PenFed $22.5k/Commerce $15K/53 $11K/Synovus $14K/BBT $11K/CapOne $12K/DCU $7.5K/BMO $7.5K/Chase $14.5k/Cabelas $10K/ and many many more!
Total CL $398600, plus car and RV loan.
Ooh. Ooh. Getting closer to that $500K mark!

Re: Weird CLI Denial Kohl's HELP

Fltireguy - Actually its very distressing because this is my 2nd, yes 2nd, HP CLI Request from them in the last 3 months. Both were pulled on Experian and both were instant denials. Maybe there's a glitch in their system?

One is dated 6/8/17 the other 9/13/17.

Total CL 43-45k used <10k. So 20-25% UT but definitely under 30%.

I know they're my creditor and if they "have the right to HP me", BUT as you said NO ONE else is reporting this happening to them.

I have EX credit monitoring and was notified maybe 5 mins after the request that a HP was done Smiley Sad

Re: Weird CLI Denial Kohl's HELP

I've had them Since 2/16. I always get denied for a CLI when I request it. I've never had a HP though. I gave up on them. They have increased it on their own. $300 ---> $700--->$1500---$2500

Re: Weird CLI Denial Kohl's HELP

I am thinking kohls is not using a fico score, but rather some vantage score. Perhaps check that further...

And truly, the hp sucks for that card, especially when they don't come through, and extra especially if they HP to calculate a vantage score. And fwiw, i don't carry a mortgage in the usual way, i use corporate debt, so it doesn't report in any way to my personal reports, so i also get that reason as number 1. I would really be poed if they hped me for the decline though. I think i would honestly close the card.
