I applied for the Discover It and received this message. I called, they said it was a decline. I'm wondering why they didn't just show declined on the app screen? Got my hopes up
Weird. Sounds like a request for verification. Did they ask you any questions regarding the app?
If I were you, I think I'd call back and try to reach a different CSR.
I called back again. Ugh, it was a decline for an individual application but they offered me a joint which I don't currently have the means to do. So lame. I think I'm done ever applying for Discover. Second prequalify mailer I've app' from and both declines. This one pissed me off it truly seemed like I had it pending verification
Ugh. I love Discover, but you should almost never take their mailers/prequals seriously. It's advertising, not a true prequal. I got them in the mail for years and was denied 3 or 4 times while using them. Then a few months ago I somehow got no prequal and was instantly approved for 6k.
There's no rhyme or reason to that kind of stuff with them. Unless you get a mailer with a 2-3% APR range, just trash it.
I desperately want an in with them. I guess it's just the butt hurt talking haha. Maybe I'll wait another year and reapply cold. I am only 2 years post BK7 so maybe once I give that more age I will have a better chance. I thought with a 685 I had a good shot. 3% utilization.
One thing about discover is they have no rhyme or reason (that we can figure out) whom they approve. Someone right out of BK7 they approve, someone with 700+ scores and perfect history they will decline. Really they are the only lender I cannot grasp on even a straw of whom they choose to approve. Sorry for the denial. IMO they just aren't worth it wasting HP's after hp. One will eventually get in, but is it worth 4 hps or so? Alot of other cards on the market that are better than discover imo and you know with alot more certainty of your chances of approval with a bit of research. You cannot do this with disover or at least I can't figure them out.
Also they don't recon, so the computer makes every decision it appers just like sync, etc..
At least with a bank like Barclays you have a chance of a manual review and can plead your case.
