My membership and credit card were opened JULY 2016. I tried applying for a second card with them two weeks ago and was declined with no credit pull. Letter stated "Account too new" So, I called them up today and asked about the denial. Rep said the account needs to be 6 months old to be able to apply for another card or even a CLI. I asked her how come there was no credit pulled, she said there was. Weird, cause I did try to apply for a second card a month after my first card and there was a credit pull, reason was BK. My 3rd statement is coming up in a week and i'm not even sure if i should try for a CLI. I know they do pull for CLI cause I have tried twice. I have 8 pulls on EQ already from NFCU since opening it.
.. My report have changed substantially since July that's why I wanted to try for a second card and maybe I'd get a higher limit. Any thoughts??
CU's are basically banks that have not gotten their stuff together and are using customer service gimmicks as duct tape to hold it all together. Having a BK apply during a CLI might be normal if your score is too low. By issuing the card to you they most likely opened up all of the limits to just issue a card with a 500-2000 limit. BK's are pretty big buisness so you probably want to let it drop off before applying for more credit. Also July is month 7 and two weeks ago would have been month 9. So you have had your relationship for only 2 months and NFCU is still going to question your need for credit outside what they are risking now. A 6 month wait is fairly standard with 1yr recommended. My recommendation is to wait and let the profile age a few years since you pushed it to the limit already.
@kobe2012 The no second card thing isn't right, goes contrary to Creditaddict's (this board's resident NFCU information authority) although it seems that there may be a bump with second cards: http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Applications/Navy-Federal-3rd-Official-Thread/td-p/47611... and see this thread: http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Approvals/Navy-2-GoRewards-Approved/td-p/4763154
@SacTownGuy My Bk is newer than yours (Jan 16) and NF bumped my CL from 1k (got that card June 16) to 25k in one shot after the third statement cut (requested on line, used max button) so that isn't right. I use the crap out of my card (we use it to pay for just about everything, gas, grocery, food etc) and we pay it back (I make 6 or 7 payments a month) immediately.
@Kobe212 Good NF second card threads: http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Applications/Navy-Federal-3rd-Official-Thread/td-p/47611... and http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Approvals/Navy-2-GoRewards-Approved/td-p/4763154 They have been giving them though there seem to be a few bumps.

NFCU is strange with CLI. I've had my cards since Jan '16. I've tried a CLI and gets declined due to BK. I don't get it...... NFCU approved the CC with a BK but won't do a CLI due to BK, strange. Things that make you go, hmmmmmmmm.
@Anonymous My BK is newer than yours (Jan 16) yet NF bumped my card from 1k to 25k after the third statement/90 day mark (as per Creditaddict http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Applications/Official-NFCU-CLI-Guide/m-p/4753498#M139346 . I use the crap out of my card for food, gas, groceries (1800 a month and make 6-7 payments each month; overall UTIL is 9% and only because large purchase on a 0% for 18 month card).
