Weird amex 61 day cli denial

so i waited til 62 days  to try the 3x cli on my amex card got the dreaded 7-10 day message thought maybe i didnt have the dates right so i tried again  the next day still got the 7-10 day message so i get 2 letters in the mail from amex today citing the reason for denial is 'The length of time you have been a customer with American Express is too short.'  do they not hand out the 61 day cli anymore?  i tried again today which is nearly 75 days since my card was issued and i got the same 7-10 day message again which i assume when i  get the letter will say the same thing my EX fico right now is 740 which is almost 55 points higher then when i was first issued the card

Yes, Amex still does CLIs after 61 days but contrary to the popular opinion in these forums, not everyone gets it.  How long have you been with Amex?

Once you are denied for a CLI, if you submit another request before 30 days have elapsed since the denial, the system will automatically reject the new request.

Also, the adverse action notice should tell you the date of the credit pull Amex used to make their decision.  Its quite possible that they used old information; they scores used for credit decision typically lag the score shown in your online account by about a month.

Re: Weird amex 61 day cli denial

What was your starting limit?  If its like $500 or $1,000 you would generally have to wait at least 180 days which is the standard time for CLIs.

Re: Weird amex 61 day cli denial

starting limit was $1000 i thought if that was the reason they would say so my wife had the same scores as me and she was able to double her sl of $1000 to 2000 at 61 days a few months ago i just assumed mine would do the same i guess i may have to wait

I thought it was 90 days after a denial it would be automatic?

Re: Weird amex 61 day cli denial

I think you're mistakenly assuming "The length of time you have been a customer with American Express is too short." as a timeline denial, meaning you pulled the trigger earlier than 61 days. I see that reasoning as a profile denial, meaning Amex would like to see more history due to your boarder line approval of $1k SL. If that is the case (profile denial), you will have to wait 91 days from that 1st denial and the reason for your 2nd denial. Since timeline denials do not reset the clock, I would waiting until 91 days from 1st denial before pulling the trigger again, or you can just call in and ask the exact date you'll be eligible.

Nothing weird about a 61 day denial. As stated above not everyone qualifies, regardless of credit score. History counts for alot with Amex. Keep using your card and making good steady payments and you'll often find the door opens more quicklySmiley Wink
