Wells Fargo: Identity Verification Issue

Wells Fargo initially put my application on "pending" because they wanted to verify my identity.  As they requested over the phone when I called, I faxed over the documents they wanted, only to find out over their application status automated phone system that my application is denied because they "could not verify my identity."

I am waiting for the letter to arrive to see exactly what their reason is for the denial, but it seems all so stupid that they would reject my application for not being able to identify me evem after faxing over the documents they requested.

Happens often with more banks than WF. Report back what the letter says. In the meantime to go a branch and try to get it fixed. Many members have had success in person.

Just wondering.  Have there been that many fraudulent attempts in the finance sector to open accounts in someone else's names in recent years?

I have been "gardening" for the most part since 2017, with the sole exception of opening up an Apple card account in 2021.  I had no trouble with that.
