No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
It is secondary factor, however, you may choose to write student. You are a student, may I ask why do you prefer PRG knowing that it is a charge card not CC?
I note that your scores are reasonably high on TU and your profile indiactes that you have managed revolving credit. But you have not provided any info as to your stats.
We need more information regarding you AAoA, any CO, Lates etc.
Please note that AMEX pulls EX not TU. You will need to give us EX FICO scores in order to get better feedback.
I am also a student but i usually put employed since i am also employed. I think it helps determine credit lines slightly.
Sorry, I had posted a lot of this info earlier on a different thread, and I didn't want to just end up duplicating a thread. I was more interested in knowing how AMEX might interpret the student vs. employed income source.
For a better feel though, I have 3 Accounts in Good Standing, with credit util sitting at 5%. No negative items (nothing in collections, no lates, etc), 2 credit inquiries, only 9mo AAoA. I'm not currently sure what my EX FICO scores are, and my only indications of my credit standing with EX are FAKO scores. I'm not really interested in shelling out to get my actual score, knowing what my report looks like.
I do recognize that the PRG is a charge card and not a CC, but the PRG has benefits that I haven't found with any other CCs, especially with the update to the card come June. The only other card that I think really competes with the PRG is the CSP, but as someone who doesn't have a very long AAoA, or any cards with CLs >$5000, I don't have much faith in being able to be approved for a CSP (and currently, I'm not looking to get in with Chase Freedom either, because I'd like to start with a high CL with them, and don't want to have to worry about HPs every time I ask for a CLI). I travel a fair bit (I fly home a couple times a year, as well as take a couple flights a year from the east coast out to California), and pay for those tickets myself, so 3x airfare is huge, as well as the $100 credit that will soon come with the card. While I don't go grocery shopping very much, I do eat out a bit and so the addition of the 2x for dining with the PRG is big as well. The 50000 MR points bonus with only $1000 spend greatly outweights the AF of the card, and that is already waived for the first year, and when the AF needs to be paid, I will have already graduated and hopefully will have found a stable income at that point, so I'll be earning rewards to outweight the AF. I understand that high spending is something that usually is one of the few reasons to justify the PRG, and that isn't something I will necessarily be doing early on. However, I would like to get in with AMEX, even if backdating isn't going to occur with their cards anymore, and obviously I'm not looking to get the Platinum, but the Gold or Green cards don't offer adequate awards for me to feel like I'd be better off applying for those (especially with the MR bonus). In addition, many of the AMEX CC's don't offer rewards categories I find particularly relevant (most are in gas/groceries, things I spend very little money in. I probably won't spend much money on gas at all, as I live in cities where I don't need to own a car).
Sorry for such a huge response, but it's definitely something I've considered and would really like at this point. I just don't want to hurt my chances at all by either saying I'm a student (if they consider students risky), or by saying I'm employed with a low income (which might be a red flag, questioning why my income is so low). I know though as a 20 year old, that they obviously don't expect me to have a 6 figure income.
If you spent the time to read this, thanks! XD I really appreciate everyone's input and am just trying to learn and grow as much from this so that I can give back when I feel like I know something!
You would still need EX FICO for AMEX. They will not pull any other CR.
Oh, yeah sorry I know they'll pull EX, I just don't know what my exact scores are. There will be some fluctuation of my EX score compared to my TU, but so I'm just asking based on what my thin file looks like, even without the exact score. I know I do have a score though, I just haven't pulled it.
I don't know if that's helpful at all or not Thanks though, I do appreciate your assistance!
Yeah, that's what I've been hearing, but I just don't want to be overconfident about it
All Charge cards have same UW criteria. Amex tends to like thin and clean files. I do hope you get in with them. If your scores are above 710 EX, I recommend going for 2 for 1 in the order of PRG>ED. You will have the benefit of getting two for one HP. Please know that it is only good as long as your EX FICO are above 700.
BTW BlueDevils is a name used by CCSU in the northeast.
I'm not super interested in the ED right now, and I want to make sure I'll reach the spending minumum for both bonuses then. I probably wouldn't be spending more than $2000 in 3 months, given my limited income and so don't want to push it. CCSU is also not the only school to have the name BlueDevils

I would assume so but nonetheless it is a good school
That is also fine. I think you should be okay though, lets see what other say. Good luck on your application.
