Re: What are my approval chances for AMEX BCP?

Definitely go for Amex. Go for a charge (Green, Gold, PRG, Plat) and a credit (BCP, BCE, ED, EDP, etc..). They'll most likely approve you for both with 1 HP, EX in all likelihood. I think you'll definitely get in with Amex. Don't worry about the prequal sites. With a thin file and new to credit, you're not going to see many offers. You're going to have to apply. DISC's prequal site is a total crappie shoot. Told me I was prequal'd 3 times, declined all 3 times. Go for Cap One Venture. You'll most likely get it as long as your QS has been active a month or two. Check Cap One prequal site. There's is very good. If it shows you offers, you're pretty much in. But if it doesn't, you could still be approved too. Let us know how you make out. Barclays is another card you could try if your interested. But they are very INQ's sensitive so do them first if you might want that card. Cap One doesn't care about INQ's so do them last if you decide to app multiple cards. But don't get cards simply to get them. Only app cards you really want and plan to use. Too many people go crazy and app for anything and everything. This is a huge mistake. Don't waste your time on alot of store cards either. You'll end up with alot of INQ's and low CL's.

Are the pre-qualified virtually guarenteed? I got denied for a CSP about 6-7 weeks ago and really don't want another inquiry on there unless it comes to fruition...

nothing is a absolute lock, but Chase pre qual is pretty solid.

Excellent work Yes. Always great to see experts here help out rebuilders.

I didn't get anything on the chase pre-approval, unfortunately.  In my case it is more credit building than rebuilding, but all the same really.

Yeah.  I sort of figured that would be the case.  I have a call to return to the Cap1 EO for a CLI.  Maybe I will let that come to fruition prior to applying for another card.  Thoughts?

It doesn't make much difference as you have a thin file, but if you are more comfortable doing it that way then by all means.  But if I were in your shoes, I'd apply.  You need the cards to solidify your file and will be doing it anyway so I'd get it our of the way if I were you.

I sense some hesitation on your part.  Are scared of denials?

You are in the best postion right now.  Building credit can strike fear in anyone that is why this community is here to support you.  The CLI from CAP 1 won't make much of a difference.

So lets do this.. We will do it one at a time so that you are not overwhelmed.  Remember, because your file is thin this application will cause your score to reduce a bit. Don't panic as it will go back up.

Do you want the Chase Freedom card? If you do, have your phone charged and I hope you have eaten some breakfast. If you apply and it goes into pending, we will have you call and recon.  I will tell you what to say when you call...

What do you think?
