What card should I apply for next?

 Hi all,

I've been lurking here with one or two post, while I'm finishing up my mortgage process. I plan on applying for upgraded cards, as soon as we close, but before the mortgage hits my credit report.

right now, based on my FICO8, EX 660, TU 672 and 680 EQ.

my last credit card was opened in Dec 2019.

I have low limits, 2 cap 1 cards at $500, 1 Cap 1 at $300, Discover at $1500 (graduated from $200 secured to $1500 unsecured in Dec 2020), and Citi Secured $200.

3 inq- all mortgage in the past year

0% utilization

87k income

$1300 mortgage, to start in April.

I want a card to reflect grocery, gas, dining, vacation (3x a year) but I don't want unnecessary HP.

Current Score TU 672 EXP 660 EQU 680 1.14.21
Starting score TU 520 EXP 564 EQU 550 10.01.18

Are you a member of a credit union? If not, have you considered joining one?

Wells Fargo propel might be a good fit if your scores are close to 700 at the time of making the application.

Re: What card should I apply for next?

Asking for a card without the necessary hp is like asking if ones 6/24 does one still get another Chase cardSmiley Wink

Hps are part of getting new cards so not really unnecessarySmiley Wink. There are so many cards that give rewards on those categories its  not easy to recommend one without knowing what lenders interest you. Big banks and Credit  Union's have many different varities. Are you looking for rotating cats or structured rewards? Johnny 5 need more inputSmiley Happy

Re: What card should I apply for next?

Don't apply for anything, build your AAOA, and let your scores hit ~720...and then reconsider if you really need to worry about maxing out rewards/points at that point in your life. Smiley Wink

Re: What card should I apply for next?

What is holding your scores down? Any derogs?

I'd check prequalification  on americanexpress.com and the Discover site. NOT Credit Karma or any other aggregator. That should give you some insight into what you might qualify for now. JMO, good luck!

FICO Resilience Index: 64. Cards: 5/24, 2/12, 2/6. Accounts including loans: 8/24, 4/12, 3/6. Card CLs total $213,900, or $240,400 including the AU card. Cards (oldest to newest)

Re: What card should I apply for next?

I don't have a clue what's holding my scores down.

I have no derogs, all my balances are zero, and small revolvers.

I need help!

Re: What card should I apply for next?

Whichever card reports next, let it report a $10 balance. You're taking the all-zero penalty - do this and you'll gain 10-15 points.

If you care to share your profile, we can try to help you sort your scores out. Accounts, limits, ages, cards, loans, etc. Pull your reports from www.annualcreditreport.com and go over them carefully. Something is holding you back. Tiny utilization and no derogs, no excessive inquiries, with a couple years age, should have you in the 750s.
