I have the Capital One Platinum card. I've only had it for 8 months. I started with a $300 credit limit and after 6 months I got an increase o $1,500.
So my total Credit Line is $1,800. My utilization is only 1%. I only charge my cell bill that is $30 and pay it off once I get the statement.
I want to apply for a card that has no annual fee and that has some rewards for paying utilities and groceries and things like that.
My current scores from Credit Karma are 729 for TransUnion and 725 Equifax.
I have been receiving pre approved offers lately but some say they will start me with a CL of $700.
I've got 2 pre approved letters for the Discover it Card, but I dont know how much they will start me off with.
What card would start me off with a decent credit line? Im currently trying to raise my scores to purchase a car and a home one day.
A good cash back card for utilities and groceries is Barclay Rewards card.

You'll be fine if you keep with being fiscally smart and sound with your credit; once you want to purchase the car or house (as long as it's not within the next year or so, you do need to give time for your credit to grow + establish history of payments)
its to predict which creditor will give you a high SL--I mean, chase and citi was it for me, as well as Amex but a lot of folks here may say otherwise...haven't tried capital one, but that was one of the ones I've read. (That will give you a high SL).
make sure you keep the utilization low, pay your cards on time (auto pay is awesome), and periodically ask for CL increases if they don't give it to you...
youll be fine. I know someone who only had two cc and their score was near 800.
I would definitely ask Cap1 about upgrading your Platinum to QuickSilver.
Discover IT or Chase Freedom are great everyday cards.
Barclays Rewards has 2X cash back rewards on gas, groceries and utilities, and as others have mentioned Amex BCE is a good choice as well.
I went ahead and applied for the discover it card 1/18 and was denied. I called yesterday and was approved with a $1250 Credit Line.
In another 3 months when one of my hard inquires comes off ( I have two) I will probably apply for another card. Im trying to have an 800 credit score.
I only charge utilities/groceries and never carry my cards with me when I go out. I dont want to spend and then not be able to pay it off in full when statement comes
Keep that attitude and philosophy going, and you will be very successful. Sometimes people go crazy with applying for cards or carrying high balances and spending more than they can afford which gets them into a place of hurt. Pay in full, don't over-extend your credit, and you'll do fantastic. Keep up the great work.
@elim wrote:A lot of CC sites have prequalify links. I would check those (including AMEX). There is a rumor lately that if discover gives you a range of 3 or 4% (like 0% Intro Purchase APR* for 12 months and then 12.24%– 15.24%) in the prequal (and not 15%-- 24%) then that is pretty solid. CapOne is giving out large limits on Venture lately. But you may need 5k experience to get approved. The prequal will show.
If you do get offers, I would always check here after any prequal and before applying to get more input.
The Discover rumor proved true while helping my fiancee apply this morning for Discover IT.
I really like the Barclaycard 2x Rewards. I only use it for Gas and Groceries.
