Re: What is the easiest unsecured card to get approved for, if no credit history?

I started out very annoyed and now I'm happy with the final outcome. I was clawing my face off over the people telling you to apply for unsecured capital one cards when you don't even have a fico score generating. That's a 3B pull for a most likely decline. Did anyone suggest fingerhut? Fingerhut.com basically guarantees you a line of credit. They'll probably give you 200 bucks, you buy an item and pay it off in installments over 6 months or so, and as long as you pay it off, on time payments, they'll switch it to a revolving line of credit. You might even get lucky and get the revolving right from the start, and they're start reporting on your CR almost immediately. That would be in addition to whatever credit cards you have though.

Re: What is the easiest unsecured card to get approved for, if no credit history?

So i got a letter from discover today saying I was denied due to insufficient income. When I applied for the card I included money that my parents deposit to my account as income. When I clicked submit they brought me to a page where it told me to call them to verify some information. I called and asked the lady what should be included for income and I asked her if I should include money from my parents and money from internships and she said no, so she changed my income to 0. Well i went back to the application today and noticed that if you hover over the income box is says you CAN include internships and money available from your parents. I am going to call them in the morning for sure and see if I can be reconsidered with an income other than 0 since that lady didn't know what she was doing.

Called two different numbers from discover and they both pulled up my application and said they couldnt reactivate it and that I had to reapply. Doesn't make sense that they can't reactivate my application when the information on the original one was wrong.

Well look at that. Applied for Discover chrome student again with my corrected income and they told me I just needed to send proof of address and that I would be approved. Kind of annoyed that the lady lied to me the first time and changed my income to 0, but whatever. Haven't heard back from cap one yet about the secured card. I'll probably still accept the secured card since it's a mastercard and has no annual fee. Or does it look bad on my credit to have a secured card?

Congrats on the Discover.  I'd suggest taking the Capital One secured card and taking care of it.  Capital One rewards use on their cards and if you take care of it, you'll be able to apply for one of their unsecured cards within 3-6 months.  It's worth initiating a relationship with Capital One.

Ok. I will accept the cap one secured and use it for 1-2 purchases a month. The deposit is refundable so I don't see why not. I'll just put down the minimum deposit.

I didn't see any mention of SDFCU.  They have a secured card.  They don't pull any CRs for the secured card.  They check Chexsystems to make sure you're not there.  With a $500 deposit you could get a secured card and a secured loan.
