I hear all the time people being approved on a recon but I never have been. The analyst, if I get one, doesn't ask questions, just goes over the reasons for denial. Or I'm told the company does not have a credit analyst I can speak with. I recently had a serious emergency running some cards up by $20k overall and I'm trying to get a little more available credit to help. Nothing is behind. One company lowered my limit by $1500-no letter & no reason-but the lady I spoke to said she couldn't increase it manually, but since I had updated my income & profile it would increase to the original limit in the next computer review at the end the month-2 months ago and hasn't happened. This is what happens-the rep never goes over anything and the decline stands or the rep sees no reason for the decrease, decline, closure, etc says it will be fixed & doesn't make note of the fact and the decline stands. I don't know who to talk to.

I don't have the expertise to answer your question, but I am sure others on the forum are.
OP- when you recon a card or try to get someone to help you with an existing card/problems with its credit limit, you want to make sure you google the specifics banks backdoor number. the backdoor number will connect you directly to a credit analyst who has the power to over ride decesions made by the computer.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Before you recon, you have to make sure to have a strategy. They are trying to approve you based on information that is provided to them with your application but you calling allows yourself to plead your case in the right way. If you have a derog like a bankruptcy for a example and its 4 to 5 years old, you want to highlight your hard work and excellent payment history over the past years. If you have a relationship with the lender, you want to highlight that stuff too. Sometimes they just can't approve you and it is what it is.
You must be right about it just being what it is, and they just can't/won't approve me. I always check for "backdoor" numbers or ask for a credit analyst. I have no lates, no derogs, avege age is 6.4 years with oldest account over 18 years. Always make more than minimum, some PIF, Only issue I have is utlization, and that was made worse recently.
I have only ever tried a recon line once at it was 6 months ago with Barclay.
This was after reading on here of everybody having success with recon after being denied. It was the first i had ever heard of a recon tbh, and it was the best thing I have ever done. I used one of the numbers posted in the thread, and the person who answered the phone basically asked me 3 questions. Whats my name, how much do i make, and is there anything i can help you with.
initially denied i wound up with a 1k limit on barclay rewards. after 6 months of PIF got an auto cli on 3500. CL now at 4.5k. This is my highest cl on any of my three cards!

Often it could be something on your CR they just want an explanation for. When I applied for my BOA Cash Rewards card I was not instantly approved and eventually I got a counter offer for a lesser card. I called in and the issue was I had disputed (2) items on my CR and they wanted to know why. Once I explained it the CSR immediately approved my card.
