What's the trick to getting over $10,000 with PayPal Credit?

Sorry if I am posting in the wrong forum section. I have had PayPal Credit for a few years. Began at about $1,800 or so limit, but then got it to $6,000 and finally $10,000 last year. Around November of last year I requested $15,000, but got declined. It's been around 6 months so I sent in another request, again only for a decline. I was hoping for at least a counter-off like they usually did. When I originally was at $1,800 limit I asked for $10,000, and they basically said "Sorry, we cannot offer that, but we have raised it to $6,000".

I just got a new job that pays quite a bit more so I'm unsure of the issue. Maybe because I do not use it often or haven't made a big purchase?

I used to have a "PayPal Credit" account.  It was opened in 2010 and last used in 2014.  After Synchrony acquired them a few years ago, they quickly shut it down in 2019 since it had been idle.  Smiley Frustrated  I'm showing the credit limit was just $3,411 and I think I had used it for some eBay purchases.

I mention all this because, while I'm not sure, I believe the PayPal Credit account was never designed to have a high limit like most credit cards.  And $10K is already in the ballpark of what is considered a "high revolving limit" by credit card averages.  So if you're at $10K on this account, that may very well be the maximum available, regardless of income or usage or FICO.  I did a quick search of data points from the My Fico approvals archives.  I didn't find any limits above $10K and most were well below that.

On the other hand, you'll find plenty of data points on PayPal-branded credit cards from Synchrony exceeding $10K.  These aren't to be confused with PayPal Credit, formerly known as "Bill Me Later."

Does Paypal Credit even report to CRA's?  Back when I had my account it didn't.  I always called it my hidden trade line.

Paypal Credit reports to the Bureaus now, definitely EX & TU (not sure about EQ)... This change took place around 3-4 years or ago

Well, you made me curious, so I logged in.... current limit is 7k..had a cli a few months ago from 5200, I think.  Anyway, figured what the heck, it's a sp.  Requested 13k, and was immediately approved.

For 10k

Congratulations on your Synchrony CLI, @CreditKick.  This definitely begs the question of whether $10K is the maximum limit they would normally allow on PayPal Credit.  I'm hoping any other community members with PayPal credit experience can chime in on their limits and if they were also capped at $10K.

Other data points, though, might be helpful such as how much spend you were putting through that card, FICO scores, overall utilization,  new accounts/inquiries, etc.  That could really help if we start to have members report breaking the $10K limit to determine how that happens.

Re: What's the trick to getting over $10,000 with PayPal Credit?

It is well known that when you request a CLi on the website there is a hard limit at 10k for all of those requests. If you want to go over that limit you need to call in. Regardless most people do not spend enough to justify limits over 10k anyway so I am not certain you want to fight that uphill tiger.

Re: What's the trick to getting over $10,000 with PayPal Credit?

Correct, PPC like many Synchrony accounts seems to have a 10k max when requesting online.  The only way to get beyond that is to call Credit Solutions.

PPC (previously BillMeLater) did not report to CRAs before Comenity transferred the accounts to Synchrony.
