For some background, a non-resident alien here with an ITIN. Have business and expenses in the US so naturally makes sense to have US credit cards and credit history.
Like many, the journey started with an application for Cap1 Platinum, which got approved in April 2021, with a $300 CL. In 6 months (October 2021) I got an upgrade to the Cap1 QS (not QS one) and a bump to $600 in CL.
In Dec 2021, I got approved for the Amex Cash Magnet with a $1000 CL. Last week I applied for the Amex Platinum Charge card through Nova Credit, (I have a credit history with Amex in my home country for over 6 years and hold 3 cards with them). I was approved for the US Platinum Charge Card and it got delivered yesterday. This besides I have one Self Credit Builder account, and a secured Credit Card from Sable, the Sable One.
My FICO score on the Amex App is 699, Equifax score is 649. I cannot see TU and EX scores with an ITIN, unfortunately. I have 0 late payments.
After the last upgrade to QS I have not gotten any upgrade or CL increase on the Cap1 card, should I just wait it out? Or should I ask for a CL on the website? My goal with Cap1 is to get the Venture X.
Secondly, with Amex I want to get the Mariott Bonvoy Brilliant, I know a lot of Plat holders get targetted for the Bonvoy Brilliant, should I wait to be targetted say for 5-6 months or if that does not happen, apply for the same?
Finally, at what point should I apply for a Chase card? I know they accept online applications with an ITIN, but they are fairly strict when it comes to approvals I think.
Any feedback is appreciated.
Seach CapitalOne and "bucketing". I doubt you'll grow that card very far. I have one, have had it 8 years, it's sitting at like $1900 and is far surpassed these days by virtually evey other card I have. Even your Amex Cash Magnet CL is at the lower end of the spectrum.
You're better off going to CapOne's pre-qual site and see if you qualify for other cards than trying to fret a CLI. You may be challenged by your length of US credit history and as a result what appears to be a fairly thin file. Regardless, Good Luck!
Thanks, but it's only 5 months from the last CLI, $300 -> $600 (Platinum -> QS) would that still be bucketing? Or should I wait for a couple of more months perhaps?

Sounds like you can take this in a few different directions. As far as the Cap one goes, you can have 2 Capital one cards at a time so you can always try to just add another one to your wallet (if it makes sense for you). CLI's with Cap one can only happen once every 6 months.
If you want to get in with chase, most people try to do that sooner rather than later due to Chase's 5/24 rule. So you probably want to app with them before you hit that (there are data points for exceptions made, but I would opperate under the assumption that wont happen).
Also, as far as the credit scoring goes I would try to see what your other 2 scores are fist. Having a thin domestic file might make your scores a little sensitve to hard pulls. You can also just open your amex account online and check for card offers, if you click the blue "apply" button on a particular card, if you are pre-approved a message will pop up on the next screen that says "jaymonline you are pre-approved!"
Good luck!
Thanks, I guess I will wait for a couple of months for any CLs on the Cap1 account, if that doesn't happen will try an app for a new card. Although most likely unless something major changes on my credit file, cap1 will most likely offer me the same options between Platinum, QS One and QS I think.
In such cases does it make sense to get the same/similar second card just for the sake on building credit? Or should I just wait till I qualify for something like the Venture or Venture X?
