I have a couple of questions for those with experience with Discover CLI's:
Would it be best to wait until after my TU Fico 8 score they provide is updated? Right now my TU score in my Discover account is 638, but it is really 650 now and Discover will update it again on the 17th. The 9th will be 92 days since my account was approved, but I'm thinking of waiting the extra 8 days so they know my score is 650.
Would it be best to let my balance at the time I app be fairly high to show I'm using the card and could use a CLI? I could have a balance on the 9th or 17th, whichever day I do the request, then pay it down by the statement cut date so the high UTL isn't reported.
Any ideas? I really want this CL to go up and am trying to be very strategic. Any help would be really appreciated.
Bella, I don't think there's a limit to how many times you can apply for an increase. You could app for an increase on the 9th, and if that doesn't work, try the 17th. You might be right about the higher credit score (better chance of approval and maybe a larger cli). With regards to carrying balances, I've seen many peeps getting cli's while carrying balances and many not owing a penny. Discover knows how much you've been swiping their card, and can see your purchases, so I'd probably leave a small balance (and this is only if your other cards are reporting zero balances - remember you're rebuilding).
If my memory is working this morning, you got approved for $500, right? Well, good luck to you - got my fingers crossed!

Good advice, weedeb, thank you. My SL is $1000, no CLI yet. I guess I want to get into that generous CLI bracket that some seem to get! Maybe I should just chill on pushing the button altogether. Even though it's not a HP, do you think hitting the button too many times too soon makes me look desperate? And you are very right to remind me that I am, in fact, rebuilding!
If I were you, I would wait. I'm in the same exact position as you right now and I'm just about done with the wait.
When I was approved for the card, my score I believe was 736. I went on a mini app spree and my score dropped a bit; the last score they have for me on 8/28/16 is 718.
My current score as of 3 days ago was 757 which of course is quite a bit higher than the 718 they would use today if I requested the CLI.
My statement date is on the 1st, and usually on the 3rd my FICO score updates on their site although the date is usually from 4-5 days earlier; I'm expecting tomorrow for my score to update and show 757 +/- a point or two and be dated 9/28/16 +/- a day or two.
I believe today is Day 99 since approval, so tomorrow will be 100. Back on Day 91 I was tempted to request the CLI, but I felt it was worthwhile holding off and waiting for Discover to SP me again so that my CLI will be based on a ~757 score rather than an old 718 score. About 10 days of waiting could potentially make a significant difference in the CLI; maybe I'll get $4k instead of $2k or something, who knows.
I say wait a little longer and know that you didn't leave anything on the table regarding this CLI.
Thanks. It worked BTW... score on Discover site was exactly 757 as I anticipated and the date was 9/28 as I expected as well. The CLI I received was $4000 which is funny because that's the number above that I sort of threw out there. So I got $3800 (auto) on Day 77 then $4000 on Day 102. I put a bunch more data points in this thread here if anyone is interested:
Overall I'm happy with going from $12,500 to $20,300 in 102 days.
