When should I apply for freedom?

With no credit history, Discover approved me for the  Discover it chrome student on Nov 13, 2015 with a SL of $1,250. Do you think I will have a chance at being approved for chase freedom 3 months after I got my discover card?

Re: When should I apply for freedom?

Its possible, but if your able to wait 6 mos from opening Discover. Your chances will be better.

Re: When should I apply for freedom?

Hey there, definitely wait more months, like Skye said.

I made the mistake of apping for freedom right after getting my disc too (right when I turned 18) in July.

However, I apped for freedom since I wanted the AARP card anyways last week and was approved with massive limits (see sig)

Re: When should I apply for freedom?

With no credit history I would recommend to wait for a full year with Chase.  I believe they like to see 1 year of history first ...but there were exceptions especially for banking customers.

@ig
Yup, I think what contributed to my limits is that I became a banking customer.

Re: When should I apply for freedom?

I have had a checking and saving account with chase for over 2 years.

Does anyone know if it actually takes 6 months of history to get a credit score?

Yes, you need to have at least 6 months of credit history in order for a score to generate.

And that's a plus. I still recommend waiting the 6 months.

Re: When should I apply for freedom?

hmmm I think it will be worth it to apply when I reach the 3 month mark. If I don't get approved, no biggie.

May I ask why you want the Freedom, when you already have Discover? I'm just curious.

The only reason I got the Freedom was because I already used a HP from getting the AARP card -- otherwise I would have never thought of getting the Freedom at all.

The categories are usually the same too.....but then again, I can't make that assumption (just basing off of last year).

It would be a miracle if you got the Freedom in 3 months with no credit history, haha Smiley Very Happy Only reason I was approved was because of my crazy high CL and 10+ years of credit history on my Authorized User cards. I wish you luck though, if you decide to apply Smiley Happy

You may want to go into a Chase branch to app the Freedom card. A little help from your friends at the branch, who have an incentive to help you get the card, can see your checking history, and have contacts to call, may be a plus. It certainly won't be a minus.
