When should I apply for next card?

I have been AU of a citi card for a few year and I have applied for Capital one on Febuary 2023 and get approved with Quicksilver with 1000 limit. I would have to pay for the balance twice a month because of the low limit but paying itself is not an issue.

On March I applied for AAA Advanatge but got rejected because AAA claim they cannot verify my information. I try calling Comenity to figure what they mean but they toss me to robo call and say nothing will be revealed and reapply in a month. That was a complete waste of a hard pull.

So, I have 2 hard pull atm. I really want to get a visa card that I can use at Costco since atm I will have to buy the costco cash card with my quicksilver online a week or 2 before planning a costco run.

My Quicksilver finally show up on my Experian report and my current score there is 749. I wonder if May should be a ok time to try applying for another card. I want to go for Venmo since it get warehouse cashback or Elan cash max since it get good gorcery cash back but I would be willing to go for Usbank cash + secure if needed. How hard is it to get Venmo or Elan cash max. One of my local bank have elan as credit card but I heard being a member of the said bank does nothing to improve the odd of being approved.

Hi @xellos2099 , If Discover is something you would entertain?

Cash back match for the first year, I suggest the it rotating category card.

So first year 10% on rotating categories and 2% on everything else.

They seem to be good with thin credit profiles.

Their Pre qualify is pretty accurate, with no harm to your score to check. (HP if you accept)

I through about discover, that would help with the credit issue but there is still the issue of needing a visa

@xellos2099,

Yes in your case, would be "Smart" (no pun intended) to get a Visa  ..

IMO, I think the Venmo would be easier to get approved for than the Elan card.

Also probably get a higher starting credit limit.

Re: When should I apply for next card?

As your other recently posted thread showed, you just got your 1st bucketed Cap1 QS card and it is 1-month old.  The suggestions were already made to you, to wait and build your credit a little more, then try applying with a bit of history of good credit management so that lenders can have some level of faith and confidence in you.

Rushing to apply for cards with so little established credit, purely in the desire to have a VISA to swipe at Costco may only result in undesired HPs with denials, whch would make your situation worse.  You don't want wasted HPs in your file.  You want to stay clean as possible.

It is annoying having to make multiple payments in a month, and to buy prepaid Costco cash cards online in advance, but I think it is wiser for you to worry about building good history first before convenience at the Costco cash register.
