When should I apply for the Bonvoy Boundless?

Hey guys. First post here. Didn't know about the 100k sub bonus when I went for the Prime card last month. F. I'm a little concerned Chase won’t like me applying again so soon but I have a pretty extensive relationship with them so I’m not sure. Mortgage, Auto, Checking, Savings, and Brokerage accounts are all with Chase. Plan on downgrading Platinum to Gold now that my honeymoon is over. Got Gold sub and took upgrade bonus offer to Platinum just for this year.

Current Cards:

  • Chase Freedom Unlimited ($5,200) June 2010
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve ($12,500) May 2019
  • Chase Ink Preferred ($5,000) November 2019
  • Chase Amazon Prime ($6,500) February 2020
  • Amex Platinum (N/A) February 2018

Chase (2/24) Ink Preferred doesn't count right?

FICO Score 8:

  • Transunion - 777
  • Equifax - 763
  • Experian - 711 (dafuq?)

Don’t know why Experian is so low. My only delinquencies are from 6 years ago.

Oldest Account: 9 Years 9 Months

Average Age of Accounts: 3 Years, 6 Months

Income: $65,000 (Side question: Anyone ever get stuck having to go through the income verification process? Just pay stubs like the mortgage? Wife and I both got pretty sizable raises recently since I applied for the Prime card. Dunno if they flag for that.)

Also from Texas. So what do ya'll think? Wait 6 months or do you think 1 month is long enough? Thanks for the advice!

I think you should let things settle down a little more, perhaps more than one month at least. You will potentially have four apps(/approvals?) in a one year time frame with Chase. If you can sit six months that would be ideal but if a good offer comes up a few months down the line I think you'll fine as long as you cool down after this app

As for income verification I haven't heard much from Chase regarding that. If you and your spouse's income has gone up since your last app that should be fine reporting it as such without having to provide pay stubs or something similar

I mean you're not wrong there. Didn't think about how many were from Chase specifically. As long as I have it before my next travel spree in July I'll be happy. Is instant approval still possible after only a month or do they tend to be reviewed manually that close together?

YMMV. Chase allows two approvals per 30 day period though it is not recommended. I know in my time with Chase I've had both instant and "we'll let you know in 30 days" messages from different application positions. If your experience is getting instant approvals I don't see that changing for you unless you're reaching the total credit allocation limit Chase is willing to extend your profile. If you need the card before your July travels I would hit them up in May to give yourself some leeway if Chase makes you wait

Cannot stress, though, once you apply for the Marriott card you let things cool off at least with Chase for the rest of the year if you can. In the current economic climate there's no need to get on Chase's radar and give them any excuse to take a closer looks at your accounts no matter how loyal a customer you've been to them

Good luck and welcome to the forums!

Dang that's fair. I'll wait until May to be safe. Especially with almost all of my credit tied to them, I really don't want to risk the "Chase randomly closed my accounts for no reason" horror stories.

Re: When should I apply for the Bonvoy Boundless?

Heh. So I ended up Applying for it after all. I was not instantly approved but the banker credited that more to the Marriot having their own approval process. I was approved 4 days later for $7,800. Datapoints for future reference -

Chase's Card Aquisition Risk Score V2 (CARS Score) :

774

Key factors that adversely affected your credit score :

LENGTH OF TIME SINCE THE NEWEST CREDIT CARD ESTABLISHED

NUMBER OF REQUESTS FOR NEW CREDIT IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS

NUMBER OF REQUESTS FOR NEW CREDIT IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS

REVOLVING ACCOUNTS OPENED IN PAST 12 MONTHS COMPARED TO ALL REVOLVING ACCTS

So yeah. For sure looks like I should calm down for a good year or so. Thanks for the input, guys. Glad to be apart of the community Smiley Happy
