Hello All,
I am reading a lot re: credit card companies that will ONLY do a soft pull to approve you for a tradeline. Is this actually true? Is it really just a soft pull for a "pre-approval", and then a HP for the actual Approval to go through. I am only curious because I am in the process of applying for a pretty modest mortgage come July, and have been advised to avoid apping for new credit until the loan goes through.
If there are CCC's out there that do in fact ONLY do a SP, where I do I find them? And, how does it work?
Thanks in advance for any answers/suggestions you may have!

Even if you get a new card via SP the new trade line will still show up on you report. I'd imagine mortgage company would be able to see new account.
OP, what's more important, your mortgage or a SP for a store card?

Vey good question. Even if you obtain a new card via a SP, mortgage companies will still see the new account and bring it up. Far better not to take chances.
I would say wait for closing. It was a pain to explain all the (not even that recent) inquries on my report to my lender.
I would agree that you should just wait. Most cards worth having require a HP to get. Those who require a SP are almost always store cards with limited use (unless you spend a ton on Overstock or something).
Credit cards are not going anywhere. Just wait and apply after the mortgage closes, IMO.

The New TL you get from an sp store card that you would rarely use will do more damage then you realize. I think aaoa is underestimated in its importance with your overall credit. As others have noted just wait till your mortgage goes through then re-evaluate what type of cards you really want. Getting a card because you can get it now no matter if its an sp or hp is usually not an good idea.
