Which Card To Get Next?

Started with no credit history In March this year. Got approved for a Capital One Secured card with a $200 limit with a $99 deposit I belive. About 2 months ago Capital One Increased my CL to $500 without notifying me at all, which was pretty cool considering the posts I've read on this forum saying they do not do CLI for secured cards.

Got a pre approved offer for Credit One Bank about 3 months ago, applied and got a $500 limit. Credit One doesn't seem to be too popular here Smiley Tongue

Never missed a payment, POF, balances kept low, etc. A few places I've read said It's better to have more accounts open, Is this true? If so, what are some good places for me to apply to? Only looking to apply for 1 card, If any.

Not sure how qualified you are after a prequalified check, but US Bank gives me the following,

U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa - 19.99% APR U.S. Bank Cash 365™American Express - 19.99% APR U.S. Bank FlexPerks®Select+ American Express - 18.99% APR

Are any of those a good place to start? Maybe somehwhere else? Real credit score Is unknown. Stupidly did my once a year free credit pull 1 month Into having Cap1 card.

-Thanks

Re: Which Card To Get Next?

Pay $1 to CCT to do the trial, get your 3B FICO8, then cancel the trial via phone or email.  Do it today.

Secondly, do you have any open installment loans reporting?  Auto, student, mortgage, personal?  If not, do the Alliant SSL Technique ASAP -- http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Understanding-FICO-Scoring/Adding-an-installment-loan-the-Share-Secu...

Then see if you prequalify for Discover.  I'm not sure about US Bank -- I get the IDENTICAL prequalification offer (same APRs) and haven't pulled the trigger because I'm gardening.  Report back if you do it!

Re: Which Card To Get Next?

Same card deal I started out with 7 months ago. Cap1 Secured. The $500 on the 6 month mark is normal. The problem from what I've read on here in various posts is it's rare to get anything after that. It becomes a dead end card. But, quite a few people told me they converted the card to a cap1 QS or applied for it directly on the website and was approved.  I plan on calling soon and trying myself I just haven't gotten around to it.

The majority ofadvice i've received is to try for the Discover Secured as it grows better than Cap1. You'll be out another security deposit but at least you're more liekly to get it back.

Amex after 7 months if you pre-qualify. I did and just got in with them. I say 7 just to make sure you have at least 6 months of history on your reports.

At least sign up for Credit Karma or Capital One's Credit Wise which you already have. I didn't realize those free sites even were really free until I found the forum. But I  didn't keep up on my *real*  scores but Credit Karma and CreditWise have obviously and steadily gone up since I started. I was just approved with Amex so they're still useful in seeing trends that I found.

Re: Which Card To Get Next?

Sign up for the Discover Scorecard and Chase Journey, and then I believe that Capital One should also give you a score free with your card.

As for next cards, I would maybe try to PC your Secured into a QS, but you might have to wait a year for that. Amex might also be a good bet, and also Discover likes thin files.

Re: Which Card To Get Next?

Thanks for all the advice people!

Was just looking Into the Capital One Quicksilver One, and when I click to apply on the application Itself It says,

"You're pre-qualified!

Just a few more steps to submit your application."

Does this mean I'm In, or? Still looking around. SSL Technique sounds Interesting, going to look Into that more.

EDIT:

Just went for It, got approved for the QuickSilver One. Will be here In 7-10 days Smiley Happy Kinf od wanted to keep everything In the same ecosystem for now.
