Which Card(s) to Apply For?

Re: Which Card(s) to Apply For?

Called in to PenFed early this morning and spoke with who I suppose is a front-line CSR.  He indicated that the person handling the loan wanted to move some of my credit line from the Promise Visa to the Power Cash Rewards card. I suggested they move $7K so now I have $10K Power Cash Rewards and $7.5K Promise Visa (this is a $3K increase in credit lines since orginally the Promise was at $14.5K).  But then I just logged into my PenFed account and under the Applications tab it shows the PCR as "completed" with a $7.5K CL.  I suppose I will have to escalate to a supervisor to clarifying what's going on.  The rep wouldn't allow me to add my wife's income unless she signed on as a co-borrower.  The next step is to "finalize" the application but I didnt do so because of the variance between what was discussed earlier and what is now shown in the account.  Oh well...now I'm wondering if it was all worth the effort and hard pull (I now have 2 pulls on EQ).

Re: Which Card(s) to Apply For?

They'll fix it MnB. That's the card you wanted correct? The INQs will fade before you know it. And the limit will grow. You've got folks taking HPs for $500 CLIs or sometimes nothing at all. lol
I've blown a few myself. Though I don't think yours was blown. Nothing ventured nothing gained. At least now you can get cash back on your spending with this PenFed CC.

Re: Which Card(s) to Apply For?

Just got off the phone with PenFed and the rep submitted a request to reallocate the credit line to $10K and $7.5K as had been agreed this morning.  So once that's done I'll go ahead and finalize the application.  Both reps told me they couldn't add my wife's income unless she was a co-owner on the card and they pulled her credit so I declined that.

Not particularly worried about the HPs; but I wanted to tempt fate and app for the Citi DC and I know they also might pull EQ.  But I thought better of that idea and i'll garden for the next few months at least unless a compelling offer for a Chase Sapphire pops up.  I'm now at EQ -2, EX-7 and TU-7; two of the pulls on EX and TU fall off in June.

Re: Which Card(s) to Apply For?

Citi is known for pulling EQ and EX with new customers. Good idea!
The Citi DC is a good card with some nice perks! They are conservative from the start. My SL with them was $3000. It took a year to get my first CLI. Which was only $1400. I took it and then submitted a hard pull and asked for $20k. Surprisedly they gave it to me. It took me another year with two SPs in order to get it to a little over $30,000. And then I opened a AAdvantage card recently, which I had them move some of that DC limit over to.
I'll collect the spend bonus and PC the AAdvantage to something else in 9 months.

I'm trying not to go crazy with apps but you're not helping Smiley Happy.  While I'd love to have the Citi DC I have enough cash back cards for now; Amex BCE; Discover IT, BOA Cash Rewards, CapOne QuickSilver,  a recently opened Chase Freedom and now the Power Cash Rewards. I'll  wait a bit so Chase doesn't close my card as they've been known to do when additional apps are made after their cards.

Lol, that's why I said it was a good idea to chill for several months. Even though I've never let the fear of Chase stop me. I do understand.
I've only seen Chase AA a handful of folks here. Not all of it had anything to do with new accounts. Most were for MS- manufactured spending.
None of your other cards offer price rewind either. Just something to think about down the road. Glad to see you in with Capital One and Amex as well.
I like that they all offer SP CLIs regularly verses some of the others.

Re: Which Card(s) to Apply For?

I like BOA Cash Rewards and CapOne QuickSilver because they credit the cashback to your account almost immediately.  Amex BCE? Not so much so I rarely use that now.  I'm more into accumulating Membership Rewards with Amex than getting cash back.  That's why I almost pulled the trigger today on Amex EveryDay in addition to the Citi DC but then I came to my senses.

Re: Which Card(s) to Apply For?

BOA has been great to deal with. I've collected a couple of those ATT bonuses off them when I switched phone and TV service. Took them a while to pay me, but they eventually did. Made $175 off them swapping services not including another $100 off DTV .
With Amex, the two negatives I find with them is the slow posting of rewards and overall acceptance. Some of the smaller mom and pop stores don't accept Amex in my area.
The positive is, they are aggressive at trying to keep their customers! More so than just about any lender I've dealt with.
Untill Capitol One proves me wrong. They've been rock solid. No issues at all. Like Chase though, they don't haggle on reducing APRs. It keeps me honest and paying in full. lol
I'm running an experiment to see how long it takes, if they ever do CLD me. I spend an average of $3 a month through this $49.5k card. It will have been at that limit for two years in June I think. They've CLD'd several here for not reporting enough usage on other CCs. Since it is my oldest account. I'll keep it active, regardless of the limit it has.

Re: Which Card(s) to Apply For?

My CapOne QS (PC from Platinum) is my oldest card and like you I'm loyal to them because they gave me a chance to re-establish credit after living a cash and debit card lifestyle for over 10 years.

How do you manage so many cards?  I will soon have 9 and its becoming a challenge to make sure they are all used occasionally.  I have an Excel spreadsheet with info like CLs, opening, statement close dates, payment due dates, etc. And although I'm primarily a Windows user I have an app called Banktivity 6 on my MacBook Pro that does a lot of the work like automatically downloading  and entering transactions, reconciling etc. but I still find myself spending more time that I want poring over details.  Android Pay helps a bit since I dont have to physically put a card in my wallet but mobile wallets aren't widely used in my neck of the woods.

Re: Which Card(s) to Apply For?

That's funny, my QS was originally a Platinum as well.
I use Mint to manage my cards. All the cards that allow it are on autopay. And I also have each creditor to send me reminder notifications when bills are due as well as when the payments post.
