Which Cards???

I only have one CC, which is a Cap One with a limit of 800 and no balance. Credit score 647, but may be lower since I haven't checked myFico. I am a NFCU member. I am trying to build a higher score. Which cards should I apply for? I do not want too many hits with hard pulls.

Re: Which Cards???

Use your Cap One for a $50 purchase and let the statement cut with a $50 balance.

Then wait a week or two and...

I would apply for a card at NFCU (not flagship).

They seem to be the most generous over the long run.

You could also look for prequals with Discover or Cap One Venture (not venture one).

If you prequal for Venture, Cap One would probably give you are great SL on a new QS, Savor, SavorOne, or Venture.

Rebuild started in 2014  -  $100k unsecured credit in 2017  -  $500k unsecured credit in 2024.

Re: Which Cards???

Venture is prime card with $95 annual fee after the first year.

Venture One has no annual fee and 0% interest for 12 months. Plus it’s unlikey they will qualify for a Venture. The non-One cards are for people who will spend enough to hit the SUB and rewards to offset the annual fees. I’m guessing that’s not the OP.

You should be ok for a card from Navy Fed. Call them up and have a chat about your profile before app’ing.

The point of prequal for Venture is not get a Venture.

Venture has a SL minimum of $5k.

If one prequals for Venture, they will get a great SL for another Cap One product.

Re: Which Cards???

Going with a NFCU card would be good. They tend to be quite generous and you’re already a member. Other cards to look at would be Discover and Amex. Check the prequals first, but they’re both good for people with good, but thin, credit. They grow fast too.

Discover It: 26.5k
Fidelity Visa: 21.5k
Amex Cash Magnet: 20k
Apple Card: 9k
